The Sir Percy Florence Shelley, Boscombe

A dangerous, unpleasant and criminogenic hole. Avoid if you have any self-perservation instinct.

Seabourne, Pokesdown

Better than it was when it was The Bell, but it is still advisable to avoid this place. It's not pleasant.

The Commodore Hotel, Bournemouth

Doesn't have the maritime theme or legendary landlord of old, but it's not terrible. Admittedly, it is rather cramped inside on busy evenings, and you should never order their expensive boil-in-the-bag meals. Could do with more beers to chose from (choice has always been more limited here than in the Skyglass & Kettle and Grange Hotel) and a friendlier atmosphere.

The Grove Tavern, Southbourne

"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."

An absolute cesspit that self-respecting Southbourne locals avoid. Imagine the really bad pubs in Boscombe, but transplanted into Southbourne. That's it. Having the Grove Tavern around makes sleepy Southbourne far more dangerous and criminogenic.

The Grove Tavern is frequented by old lags, wannabe gangsters, Methadone users, foulmouthed ber-drunks, and the occasional misguided foreign tourists. If you value your safety at all, stay away.

The Spyglass and Kettle, Southbourne

Poor service if you aren't a "regular". Horrible, ludicrously overpriced food that looks like microwavable ready meals, but cooked in an oven and in smaller portions. Moody school-leavers as bar staff. Not a good place to go, but there are far worse places in Southbourne.
