The George Hotel, Henfield

Having had pleasant experiences at this pub in past years, we popped in on Friday evening to see if the negative reviews on here and elsewhere were justified.

THEY WERE. The place was busy but there were so many people crowded by the bar who seemed reluctant for us to get served so we gave up and fortunately discoverd The White Hart up the road.

Can thoroughly recommend their Parlour Night on a Thursday. "Mary the Fairy " makes everyone welcome.... you can do anything : sing, play, tell jokes, whatever you like. Standard is set by The Waltzing Matildas until about 9,30 when it's open mic and always varied and entertaining for the rest of the evening. It's encouraging to see quite a few youngsters gettting up there too.
Trad Jazz is good too, mostly on Wednesdays but watch out if there's an "important " football match when start can be delayed . This week it has been changed to Mon.

Pleased to say that the excellent standards of food and service were still evident when we returned twice last week...I had the roast beef and Banoffi pie each time as they were so delicious first time round. Good value too, one course 8.95, andn if you have pud or starter , only 10.95.Add another 2 for three courses.

The White Horse, Harrow

If you haven't been there for a while, The White Horse is well worth a visit. New landlord and team run a very pleasant pub most efficiently and have created a welcoming, cosy atmosphere.
The food on the new menu that we have tasted was delicious and we look forward to trying a Sunday roast in the near future.
See you up there later!

Had two excellent meals here when staying nearby for weekend.
Very good quality and value for money. Wish we lived nearer so that we could go more frequently.

The Pear Tree Inn, Hook Norton

Visited this pub on the Friday before August Bank Holiday about 6.15. It was quite busy, menus were on tables and food was advertised on board outside. However, after ordering a drink, we chose from the menu but were then told at the bar that they weren't serving until 7pm. The barmaid then went round removing the menus. They obviously didn't want our custom so we went and had a gorgeous meal at the Gate down the road.

The Case Is Altered, Eastcote

A proper, old fashioned pub.

Visited for about fourth time this weekend. The new manager was helpful and welcoming.Pleasant small garden in courtyard. Food-wise, fish and chips were fresh and tasty and good value. The men appreciated the Harvey's Sussex beer and their better halves enjoyed a well - chilled sauvignon blanc. Will go back next time we are in the area.

Village Inn, Pinner

Go there most Thursdays for their curry night. Excellent value, less than a fiver for a tasty curry AND a choice of drink. Young staff are always helpful
and go out of their way to ensure we have a pleasant evening.

Kingsfield Arms, Harrow

Now using this pub again.Pleasant atmosphere and they have started a curry night on Wednesdays. Excellent value and impressive meals, choice of two types.
Popular for football games, screens in most bars if that is what you want.

Oh dear! Following the departure of the previous landlord,we popped in twice and found,to our dismay that the place had changed for the worse.Noisy music and simultaneous football on enormous screen are not our cup of tea, so we are now avoiding the place.May well attempt to buy a drink there after World Cup and see if there has been any improvement but don't hold out much hope.

Kingsfield Arms, Harrow

Very welcoming landlord and friendly, efficient staff.
Real ale and selection of wines by the glass.
Quiz each Tuesday , very popular.
Attractive flowering baskets outside and very pleasant small beer garden at the back.
It's a good place to relax after a hard day.The only trouble is that we enjoy it so much we can't keep away from the place.

You may like to know that there has been a change of management and a subsequent reversal of the No Smoking policy. Smoking is permitted in the lounge but there are other non smoking areas.

The Jenny Lind, Hastings

Very welcoming staff and excellent food , even on a Sunday evening .Ample portions and a delicious home made caramelised cheese cake .Reasonable prices too, including a choice of portion size for the roast.Even the smaller size was generous .We will be visiting this pub next time we are in Hastings.

The Two Sawyers, Pett

We visited this pub whilst at Hastings last weekend and we must agree with Magenta's comments.
Despite an impressive menu, the food was very disappointing. The chilli con carne on the specials board was hot from the over-use of chilli powder but it lacked flavour .My husband asked for a rare rib eye steak but if arrived more like medium and the stilton sauce was bland as well.
My husband spoke to the manager about our meals and received indifference in return .
The following evening we ate much better (and cheaper) in Hastings at a far less pretentious place and we definitely won't be returning to this pub.
