The Hatch Inn, Colemans Hatch

Dissapointing overall.

Lovely location and very charming and quaint but I have had to make the pub down considerably for the extortionately expensive food.

I am really not at all impressed about seeing steak on a country pub menu for 24.00.

Having eaten there a few times, I can say with some authority that the food, while being nice, is not exceptional (and the portions are small) and is just not worth the prices they charge, unless you have money to burn.

In terms of food, I am still to find a pub that beats the Middle House in Mayfield for quality and generosity of food and reasonableness of cost and I am sure if you have eaten in both pubs, you will concur.

The Griffin Inn, Fletching

Positives: -

Good looking pub.

Nice garden.

Nice views.

Negatives: -

Very, very, very, very, very, VERY expensive food.

Small, small, small, small, small, small, minute portions of food.

Stuffy atmosphere.

A bit too pretentious.

Staff are not friendly. Take themselves oh so seriously.

In summary: a place to be seen rather than a place to spend money on good honest food.

You have been warned.
For me the Middle House in Mayfield beats the Griffin HANDS DOWN.

The Star Inn, Heathfield

Looks like a nice pub but on our visit the food was not great and had to be taken back and the landlady was very rude for some reason and that was before we even asked for the food to be taken back!

The Middle House Hotel, Mayfield

Very friendly Aussie and Kiwi staff and friendly manager.

Great, great food and not too expensive.

Good atmosphere.

Only thing is it can get very busy.

Has been a consistently high performer for many years.

There are not many pubs in Sussex that can beat it.
