The George Inn, Meopham

We hadn't been to the George for a couple of years, having been seduced by Bartellas, The Cricketers and the Kings Arms, but we decided to try The George for Sunday lunch. The beers are very good and the food, although not the best, is fine for the price. They used to do a choice of very nice breads which we were looking forward to having with our starters, but on this occasion the bread wasn't offered. I asked the waitress for it but it never appeared and there was no apology. I had to ask for salt and pepper, which did appear. I ordered a pint of Spitfire and was brought a half pint, although this was changed without problem. Most of the waiting staff are very pleasant but one is unhelpful and unsmiling and lets the others down badly. Still, if you want very good beer, and ok food at a reasonable price, The George is a good choice.

The Rose and Crown, Shorne

Good, honest village pub with excellent, friendly staff. We had Sunday lunch here, roast beef and roast lamb were both excellent. Cheese board wasn't that great, but you can't have everything. Beer - had 2 pints of Greene King, very good. Would definitely go here again.

The George Inn, Meopham

Shepherd Neame beers always good (according to my partner - I don't drink beer myself). MasterBrew, Spitfire, Bishop's Finger, Autumn Red. Food and service is always very good and today was no exception. Have visited this pub many times and can really recommend it.

The Cock Inn, Luddesdowne

Always does great beer, excellent selection. Food may be limited these days, but what is on offer is always good. Staff are great - a pint that seemed perfectly ok to the drinker and had been half finished, was taken away by staff who thought it looked cloudy, and a fresh pint was brought. That's real service. Great outdoor areas, cosy bars and atmostphere. No loud music, fruit machines, or noisy children - absolute heaven in a real country pub.

Railway Inn, Cobham

Recently changed hands and been revamped. Bar area is now lighter and less oppressive, but the restaurant is still dark and depressing with few windows; and although we were seated at a table with a window, the view from it was of a very scruffy area. Restaurant staff don't have much of a clue how to treat customers and showed little or no interest. Not so much as a goodbye or thank you as we left. Food was uninspiring, portions small. Beer on offer was Spitfire, Masterbrew and Best. Spitfire was good.
