The Queens Head Inn, Blyford

This is a local really, have been coming here on and off for 40 years. My brother lives in Wenhaston. I've got on with all the landlords, but it's true to say the latest really has got the food sorted out. I've been once recently, and just booking to go again.

Talking with the landlady, they were pursuaded by Adnams to come to this pub, showing the brewery thinks to invest in this place. They have strong ideas about growing and rearing their own food, which is right up my street.

The Blue Ball Inn, Grantchester

Been here a few times and found it quiet but very pleasant. Early evening sun out front and it's very relaxing! It looks like it is a local centre and good on them for keeping it as such, it is so much better than the rubbish in the middle of the village. Bitter is kept very well but not a food pub, and better for it!

The Empress, Cambridge

Haven't been back since sat down next to Rev Hammer (God in modern, hardnose, folk, now works with the Levellers). Decent pub as I remember, must go back.

The Free Press, Cambridge

Last time I went there they had a no mobile phone policy. Whilst the concept of horrible ringtones going off all the time is bad, the idea that you should ban people from talking to who they wanted to because you disapproved of how they did it, put me right off. It's a kind of anti-tekkie snooty crap that should die. So I haven't been back since. Their beer and service can be wonderful, but if they still think they should determine people's lifestyle, bye.

The Cricketers, Cambridge

Very good, enjoyable people.

The Portland Arms, Cambridge

An interesting place, clearly not swayed by recent marketing campaigns! Good beer and some choice, but a bit lacking. No music on my night but with a character that would live on!

The Graduate, Cambridge

A bit dull really. It was meant to be a good place to go, but apart from a few pool tables, it wasn't much. Good staff, goodish service, adn in goodish surroundings, but a poor range of produce, and not a lot to offer really.

The Earl of Derby, Cambridge

Pub refurbished in Spring 2004. Now much bigger, has comfy chairs, but no pool table/ games room.

Reasonably friendly atmosphere, but it's my local so I would say that.
