The Church Inn, Manchester

What a transformation from what it was! Now it wouldn't look out of place in the middle of theatre-land, it's had a classy revamp! Seems to attract students due to it's location, but the prices for beer/lager aren't exactly cheap, but prices for food are more reasonable, and large servings. You won't go away hungry! Plus points - good lagers, no distracting TV, warm real wood fire in winter, outside secluded "garden", good food, newspapers and mags available to read.

Bad points - (to me) the ale isn't to my tastes (think it's Lees) and there are speakers in all corners blaring out music continuously when there's an option to have a "quiet" corner. Lack of choice of real ales + the music drops the score from a 10 to an 8. But still becoming a fave haunt of mine.

Pity all the scores are averaged from the *old* days - this is now completely different from before.

The Fox Inn, New Mills

Lovely quiet pub tucked away in the countryside, not easy to find (yay!!) and a steep walk up the bridleway from the station.
Small selection of beers, but each one was fine.
Don't be put off by the "Sky Sports" sign, most of the pub is unnaffected by the TV!
Loking forward to visiting again on a warm summer's day, if we get one this year.

The Ducie Arms, Manchester

Lovely, comfortable old-fashioned pub! Bit pricey, but some good real-ales. Near the Uni, but a bit out-of town.

The York Hotel, Bolton

Bit dark and dingy, - although that might be a positive plus for some punters! - it is nice to have a G/L pub in Bolton that's neither tucked away in the back of beyond or ripping the punters off. In fact, it couldn't be much nearer the station! Would like it to be lighter and airier, and agree that the choice of ales is way too limited, but it's much better than the now-closed Church round the corner. Would be nice if they could get recent copies of "The Pink Paper" in there for something to read!

The Dog and Partridge, Bolton

Love the place. It's about as far removed from a trendy over-pretentious cafe/bar as you could get. Everyone seems welcome - jeans or leathers, boots or trainers. Bands on Saturday nights. Great cheapish beer (although little choice, it's Lancaster Bomber or Lancaster Bomber) and no need for bouncers. Ace!
