Very unpretentious music-based pub (indie-ish DJ on to few takers on the Friday night I went); very characterful building, including homage to John Peel. Flat Cap was actually excellent, one of best drops of beer I've had in Bolton central.

This place is well segregated from the rest of town and has a warm atmosphere although the exterior and interior are run down. The bar staff are good and they have alot of local live music played inside and out. The last time I was there the electrics kept tripping out during a live set which pretty much killed the night. The ales are hit and miss, One day the can be good the next bad and for the price id expect better.

The thwaites wainwright can be on form sometimes. Inconsistancy is the main problem with the ales in here. Otherwise a decent rockers pub with stage outside for bands to play.

One of my favourites.. Must go again to see if it's as it was.

Love the place. It's about as far removed from a trendy over-pretentious cafe/bar as you could get. Everyone seems welcome - jeans or leathers, boots or trainers. Bands on Saturday nights. Great cheapish beer (although little choice, it's Lancaster Bomber or Lancaster Bomber) and no need for bouncers. Ace!
