The Battle Inn, Reading

Dreadful pub, less in need of the attentions of an interior decorator than an arsonist. I can't see how this pub can be redeemed, it's on the wrong site, the building is delapidated, the regulars are barely human and the quality of service and product leave vest amounts of improvement to even be called poor.

It's been on sale for the last two years and i can't see anyone being daft enough to take it on as a going concern. One for the pub "X" list, knock it down.

The Allied Arms, Reading

Looks scary from the outside, isn't. get through the door and now we are drinking with gas as they say. Or did i dream that? Anyway,. good old pub, jovial bar staff, beer garden with heaters for our sunny climate and decetn beer, try it you might like it.

The Granby, Reading

Call me stupid, many do, but i didn't notice that this was a lesbian/gay pub until my third visit. No "sherlock holmes award for observation" there for me then. Not that it matters, during the day it's a quiet, well managed bar with decent beer. I can't comment for the evening seen as I suspect i'm not their core target auidience. Well worth a visit anyway, gay, straight or any other variation. Vive la difference.

The Jolly Anglers, Reading

Ok pub, does the ranting tramp still stop off in the beer garden and scare away punters?

The Lyndhurst, Reading

Does the job, beer is ok, regulars seem ok, not too busy (don't know what a Firday night is like) does the job nicely.

The Eldon Arms, Reading

I was scoping out this pub whilst looking at houses in the area, it's a bit like the housing stock aroudn here, very expensive for what you get. A tiney wee lounge and a seemingly ok public bar, ruined by poor beer and awful bar staff. Try getting served when one of their regulars is behind you in the queue.

The Retreat, Reading

Sorry my review has a crucual flaw. It should read:

Grim bar, dark, intimidating and very very "locals" only. I really wouldn't recommend a drink here, even in the spirit of adventure. Never more.

The Hop Leaf, Reading

well smoky but the beer makes up for it, all mod cons, even darts computers for when the intake of excellent ales hampers the process of subtraction. a hidden beaut of a pub.

The Crown On The Bridge, Caversham

Odd pub, odd in a good way, mind but decidely odd non the less. Beer is ok, music is unusual, setting is good. Well worth a visit.

The RISC Global Cafe and Bar, Reading

Godo bar, draft Budvar and lots of bottled beers, slightly "grow your own yoghurt" crowd but that might not be a bad thing to some. Very child friendly, non smoking area at the front. Food is global cuisine and almost decent value.

The Griffin, Caversham

great pub, service is slow as it's always heaving, food is good, but get there early or you'llhave tio eat off your knees as they say.

I do wish they'd get rid of the car park at the back and make use of their great river side location for a proper beer garden.

The Bugle, Reading

Good pubs, beers well presented, friendly staff, reasonable seating, interesting building, decent regulars. What can possibly go wrong?

Well not opening until late some days and shutting at 8:30 on the 30th of December do lead me to question the wisdom of their management, they even truned away a party including me and seven of my friends as they were shutting becuae it was too quiet? What?

Sweeney and Todd, Reading

Pie heaven, very loud waitress announces the hot pie to diners, and the beer is over priced (not as overpriced as the soft drinks though, 2.80 for a pint of OJ and lemonade) but who cares? The place is definately the best pie shop in Berkshire. Vive la Pie!

The Foresters Arms, Reading

Deacent old boys bar, good Greene King beers, no mess no fuss. The beer garden looks well worth a visit once the weather heats up.

The Wishing Well, Reading

Nice pub, looks a little scary from the outside, friendly inside though, well worth a visit.

The Mansion House, Reading

You can take the kids there but thats about all this palce has going for it, very very expensive drinks and the food isn't memorable in a positive sense. In all honestly just a place to hold parents hostage while they recover from taking their children to the park.

The Spread Eagle, Reading

Solid boozer, big Reading FC pub, real ales very well kept and the staff know how to pour a pint, not quite as good as it was before the change of management but steadily improving. One may question the wisdom of letting so many children in quiet a smoky bar but it's their parents choice.

The food however stil isn't great, even the snacky stuff like chips and onion rings.

The Blagrave Arms, Reading

Solid pub, much improved over the last few years, pool table, decent beer (which occasionally runs out alas) and not too busy. A decent place to drink in Reading Town centre.
