The Three Magpies, Heathrow

Awful pub, noisy and unwelcoming. Kept us waiting 10 minutes to be served and then tells us we can't have any food because it's almost 10pm when they stop orders, note almost not after! Beer quality very average and prices very high. One to avoid.

The Queens Head, Cranford

Excellent ESB and friendly staff make this a good pre next day flight pub.

Robert The Bruce, Dumfries

Now a very poor example of a JDW outlet. Dirty, scruffy and unloved premises. Cold in winter, damn high tables encourage standing drinkers to clutter the area by the bar, and takes an age to get served, unless of course you spend every waking hour in there. Unadventurous real ale range and often more coming soon badges than actual ales on sale.

Even the beer prices are no longer significantly cheaper than say, the Cavens.

The Duke of Wellington, Minehead

Now a Wetherspoon pub!

The Sheuchan Arms, Stranraer

Regretably no longer sells real ale. Probably due to lack of promotion by the owner more than anything else.

Blue Peter Hotel, Kirkcolm

"Nothing being to much trouble" is the motto of this pub, and it does what it says. A choice of two real ales from an everchanging range. Superb, very reasonably priced food using fresh local ingredients Fri night, Sat lunch & dinner, Sun lunch. Winner of Camra's Scottish Pub of the Year 2007 and runner up in the UK wide competition. Landlord arranges an annual beer festival in Stranraer town centre (not the pub)which is next on 13-15 June 08. Bird watcher's paradise (and Red Squirrel's too). Finally offers B&B, but book early as at 28 per person/night it gets busy. All in all a super village pub.

The Boot Inn, Eskdale

Gone seriously downhill since Robinson's took over, only worth using if your hiking with sprogs/dogs or like sitting outside, shame it used to be really good.

Woodrow Wilsons, Carlisle

Although in serious need of refurbishment, the food is okay, the ales are good and varied; and service, although not perfect is actually better than many of the 'Spoon's I use every year.

The William Rufus, Carlisle

A Dump - understaffed, dirty, poor food and compared to the other 'Spoon's along the road needs to be shut!

The Failford Inn, Failford

Must be a different pub to the one I have been in-seems to be more interested in selling food than being friendly to a non local who drops in for a pint or three.

Pub is up for sale, so I guess the home brew beers will dissappear as well as the owners!

West Kirk, Ayr

Better than average 'Spoon's, but a fair trot from the trains.

Dan McKays, Troon

A poor shadow of its former self-still what can you expect from Greene King?

St Peters Finger, Lytchett Minster

has gone down hill since recent change of licensee and introduction of waiter service for food orders.

The Grapes, Stranraer

Now selling one real ale, changing twice/three times a week. Some Scottish, some English but all from Belhaven's guest beer list. Quirky old pub that is pleasantly set in a time warp!

6 Mar 2008 16:48

The Sheuchan Arms, Stranraer

Now selling one real ale at a time, mostly from regional or national brewers but in most cases not beers sold locally.
