The Verulam Arms, St Albans

Popped here with my gf for Sunday lunch, they only had 2 options on the menu! I heard the food was good here but they couldn't accommodate us so never found out! Wasn't very busy when we went either but it seemed lunch service was over (2.50pm).

The Boot, St Albans

This is still a traditional old mans pub, impressive given it's central location in the city. Been here once with my gf and had a pint of cider. Think we were the youngest in the place by 20 years (30). If you're after a traditional boozer is probably a fair bet.

The Snug, St Albans

This has been The Snug for at least the last year or more. Been here a handful of times, OK for a drink, food wasn't so good - not really a pub anymore. Does quite a wide selection of drinks if you don't mind lagers, wines and cocktails (non-alcoholic too).

Most recent visit (last night) was after having a meal at L'italiana next door (best Italian in St. Albans). On a Thursday night it has more women, and couples on first dates (it looked like).

The Vintry, St Albans

This closed in 2009 and is now Cote, a french restaurant chain. Not been there (yet).

The Hare and Hounds, St Albans

Good food, narrow menu. Stopped in here once and it was fine. Parking might be a problem (as it is everywhere in St. Albans).

The King Harry, St Albans

This is one of our favourite pubs in St. Albans. Good food and decent selection of lagers and wines. It's the only place I've seen outside London with Fruili beer on tap.

I'm not an ale drinker so can't comment on their range of 'proper beers'. Busy over the weekends, we've turned up before and had to leave because the car park was so packed.

Last orders on a Sunday is 10pm, which I thought was early but I've only been there that late once (Bank Holiday) so not much of an issue.

George and Dragon, Gravely

This pub is much improved in the last 6 months since they renovated the inside and made a push to promote food. I've been here a handful of times in recent months and it's been good.

The food is priced at 5 for a starter and 10-15 for a main course. Would recommend you try this pub again it's you've not been in the last year.
