The Phoenix, Staines

Its a pub for people who like a specific type of pub. Not great on the beer front but fantastic if you want to see a local youth rolling around the floor with a member of her Majesty's constabulary. A bit scruffy but its one of those pubs that you either like or not. I am in the or not category.

The Cock, Staines

Don't just don't. Grave yard is an insult to grave yards when commenting on this place. there is more atmosphere on the moon. Beer horrible and staff ignorant. A bit of a dossers pub or so it seems. Felt like the life had been sucked out of me after going there, never again.

The Hobgoblin, Staines

this used to be one of Staines best but its just dirty now. Still has great music but desperately needs a clean. Beer selection is different but I have never had a bad pint there. Its a6 for me but if they cleaned it up it would be a 9.

Ha Ha Bar And Canteen, Staines

Complete rubbish. A waste of time. They could have done so much more with this place. Its a slug and lettuce now but you wouldn't know it. Look across the river see the Swan Hotel and go there, swim if you have to. Don't swim, that's just silly. Ridiculously expensive, the bar staff are always somewhere else and the food is naff.

Boundary, Staines

This place was betetr when it was the Blue Anchor. Its just simply boring now, can't say much else.

Baroosh, Staines

Its a plastic pub but probably the best of all of the plastics. Very well kept, clean and tidy, it may look a bit to much like an art gallery for some tastes but the beer whilst expensive is crisp and fresh. Its not my cup of tea but for people who like that style of pub I imagine it would probably be high up on their list of establishments. because of this its a 7 for me.

The George, Staines

I am not a fan of Witherspoons at all but there are some decent ones, this is not one of them though. Rude bar staff who are far to interested in chatting each other up. The toilets are a disgrace and I once had to write to their chief exec after being abused by one of their bar staff over a disability, I believe the comment was people like you should not come to pubs. Silly **** as like many others I was injured whilst protecting our country from a terrorist threat many years ago in NI. Sadly respect is not high on the agenda in this pub.

Que Pasa, Staines

The food is nice and the Latin dancing is great to watch from a sad old mans point of view anyway (wink wink) but the service is pretty poor. Again another case of high bar staff turn around and no real quality of service. For me its a five out of 10 as its a bit plastic but its clean and you feel safe in there.

The Garibaldi, Staines

AVOID AVOID AVOID!! Not a great advert for Staines. If you can squelch through the carpet to get to the sticky bar you are usually greeted with money bags over the pumps as they have ran out of beer again!! The landlord needs to smarten up and stop popping to the bookies every five minutes. The bar staff are clearly alcohol abusers who should not be in that job, to much temptation and if you are brave enough to sit down beware of the local junkies and thieves trying to sell you a rail of jumpers that they have just pilfered from Debenhams. As for the toilets, well literally don't go there! The beer is warm, the glasses are dirty, how comes every other pub can get lipstick off their glasses?? I think what I am trying to say is please for your own safety do not use this pub but if you do please think of others and wipe your feet before leaving!

The Three Tuns, Staines

I have to agree that the Three tuns is a shadow of its former self. The latest in a long line of short term landlords is really not suited to dealing with people in any way. The place looks like a last drink at the death row bar when you walk in as there are people just sitting at the bar not moving and just gazing into their beer probably hoping for a bubble or some taste. Their beer is terrible and there is a God awful smell in the public bar. Sorry but this used to be a great pub around 15 years ago but its not anymore.

North Star, Staines

Not to sure where the few negative comments have come from. Personally I do not go in for labeling people in anyway let alone in such an overtly generalist way.
I have visited this pub on a fair few occasions and have only ever received great service and friendly chat. The banter in this pub is great and the bar staff and landlord/manager treat you as a regular and keep you involved if you wish to be.
This pub has Thai food service that I have enjoyed on a few occasions and they also cater for take aways as well.
The beer is good, the pub is clean and easily accessible.
If you go into Staines you are greeted with the usual Witherspoons, been to one been to them all and still cannot understand a word the ever changing bar staff say. You will also find the plastic coated cash cow pubs that have done all they can to kill off any atmosphere that these places used to have. Alternatively there are other pubs that have the local scoundrels in them and could really do with a deep clean or perhaps simply starting again.
I highly recommend the North star for its friendly atmosphere, great service, great beer and fantastic food. It is a real pub, it looks like a real pub and feels like a real pub, great beer garden as well. If you want to watch the sport you can as they have three large televisions which is a great improvement on the tiny ones they had 18 months back!! The landlord/manager has been there for a year or so and I personally hope he stays for a long long time.
