The Middle House Hotel, Mayfield

Nae a fan of the new over-hall. Trophy cabinet gone and WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH THE PEWS??? All a little too Gastro now and seems to be focussed on maximising food covers. On the plus side, at least you don't stick to the carpet anymore. Would give the R&C at the bottom of the hill a try as well if you're in the village.

The Chandos, Trafalgar Square

In there last night (a tuesday) with three other chaps. Last resort as the Harp and Lamb and Flag, both close by, were full. Pleasantly surprised to find a decent pint of SS Bitter at under 1.90 considering the Metro reckons the average price of a pint in London is now over 4!! Decent atmosphere with plenty of seating and friendly bar staff that imediately changed my pint when it came out tasting a touch odd. Good pub for a "catch up with mates" evening.

The Dove Inn, Hammersmith

Excellent pub for drinking but not convinced on the eating. On the couple of occasions I've eaten here, the food took a long time to arrive and on the second occasion, despite our protests, the plates stood on the serving counter getting cold while the staff were elsewhere.

But to put it down too much is to do it a disservice - I'm sure all pubs have bad days. This is quite possibly one of the best pubs in London to while away summer afternoons and evenings. Top drawer boozing whilst watching the rowers on the river.

The Kings Arms, Mayfair

My local, quality boozer - but that's what it is, a Boozer i.e. if you want to eat, go and do it in a restaurant and stop taking up the tables! (I'd recommend the Windmill on Mill St - although not technically a restaurant - pretty close).

Excellent in the summer when it effectivly merges with the Grapes, and the market place itself turns into one large beer garden. Very few tourists, nicely tucked away off the main Piccadilly drag.

Decent beers as long as you like Pride IPA and the odd guest, friendly staff. Just a pity FYEO has shut down!

I live in London but this is my local from the "country days" and I still go there a fair bit. Excellent beers on tap, Harvey's still my favourite and the garden on a summer evening is superb with excellent views. Recommended. Well done Brian

The Builders Arms, Kensington

Top drawer Saturday afternoon pub. Felt the barman / manager a little over agressive and "bouncerlike" when it came to kicking out time - always nice to be asked rather than told - we are your customers afterall old boy - however, on the whole great boozer. Recommended.
