First visit on Sunday, was pleasantly surprised too. We did the upstairs bar which has a nice relaxed vibe, just the kind of place for a long relaxed session. Size of the place means that the full Sam Smiths range is available, which is a blessing.

Interior is classic Sam Smiths - a blast from the past. Although there are number of more modern touches, like the armchair furnishings.

Well worth a stop, and a good place to take 5 whilst pottering around the local landmarks.

Very transient atmosphere as you might expect in this location. Staff were pleasant and diligent about clearing tables of empties. Beer was decent enough.

Tourists please note: Shouting "Ello! ELLO! Oi! Ello! ELLO!" at the staff won't let you jump the queue at the bar.

I was pretty worse for wear on my last visit here but I had a nice pint and time to gather myself whilst finding my second wind.

The barman was very friendly and he let me have a sample before I made my decision and parted with any money.

I wouldn’t want to stay all night in here, but I do like this pub (which is strange as I’m not the biggest fan of Sam Smiths pubs).

A great SS pub along with the Lyceum (another SS pub) which is just down the road. Good selection of sofa's upstairs and decent cheap beer. £2.06 for Alpine so save yourself £1.94 from the average price of a pint.

A splendid pub named after a Duke who was in charge of the money for the War of the Spanish Succession. He got rich enough to be made Duke in 1719, even though Parliament later discovered there was over 3 million quid missing from the money paid out, the Duke was not punished . Thank heavens things are not like that today!
