The Bell and Bear Inn, Rowley Regis

Gornal Smokies!!! - mmm!

The Amberwood Inn, Walkford

Another visit to the Amberwood for a meal with friends and it didn't disappoint! The homemade soup starter was a delightful surprise, with a fresh taste indicating that it had clearly only just been made. I opted for the Mediterranean chicken and Chorizo salad for the main course - this was also a real treat showing that some inspired imagination had been put into this dish to produce a really satisfying combination of ingredients, I would recommend this one to anyone! The service was friendly and timely. In fact when we enquired about suitable wines to accompany the food, we had the manager and chef (I think he's called John?) come over and give us his own personal recommendations as to what would go down well rather than presenting a set winelist - this is the kind of added service that can really make it a winning evening! We all enjoyed the food here and stayed for a long time afterwards as there was a good atmosphere going on and no need to feel hurried into leaving.
To my mind, this must be one of the better-managed establishments as the food is consistently good and the pub clientele is a broad mix of people which can make anyone feel at ease and welcome.

All Bar One, Brindley Place

There's better eye-candy walking around outside so dont bother going into this soulless, expensive, rip-off hole. If you're on the pull, stick to Broad Street. If you're over 21, you'll feel too old in here anyway.

The Beech Tree, Blackheath

"orlroight am ya?" - well no, not since entering this place. Try to imagine the worst stereotypical Black Country mutants and you'll see them in here. To be fair though they're harmless until about the seventh pint. However, you'll never feel welcome or would even want to in this hole.

The Grasshopper, Parkstone

This is a great pub. A good buzz in the main bar and the back room is a fine venue when they have bands on. The quiz nights a bit of a laugh too. Cant comment on the food these days although it used to be very good when John and Gill ran the place.
For a night out though the pubs fine and the beers are always well kept.

The Green Man, Harborne

Good for lunchtimes or an early meet after work before moving on to somewhere better in Harborne. It has that "chain" pub feel - tidy, overpriced, miserable and unwelcoming staff, sport on the tv at the wrong times, music too loud at the wrong times, etc, etc.

The Plough, Harborne

Yep, it's not the pub it used to be. Probably pronounced "The Pluff" these days!

The Old House At Home, Harborne

Old House at Home? It certainly is a Home alright. Might revisit when "Young man, I'm 84 years old you know!".

Union Inn, Tavistock

Not suprised that there's no reviews so far. Most punters here cant read or or write but cant 'arf drive a tractor!

The Nags Head, Studley

Ok lunchtime (aren't they all?) but a bit dodgy in the eves.

The Little Lark, Studley

We'd booked a christmas meal somewhere else for a group of 15. On the morning of the meal, they rang us to say that their ovens had packed up and we'd have to cancel. After desperately ringing around numerous other places to no avail it was suggested to try some local pubs. This was the only one who'd take us in at such short notice - and what a piece of luck! I'm sure that there was only one person in the kitchen, a really nice old lady who worked miracles for us. The excellent food came out promptly and there were no probs at all. We all had a really great time and of course some great beers too!

Washford Mill, Studley

Yawnsville, Arizona. A good pub layout and garden but dead. Needs some life as it has potential.

The Griffin Inn, Studley

Has anyone ever dared enter in here? It has the look of something from a Hammer Horror film. In fact you can't even tell if it is open or just has the appearance of a building long-abandoned and left to the ravages of nature. Frightening! Look straight ahead and keep driving!!!

The Bell Inn, Studley

Rough and Rubbish. Someone suggested trying the ciders in here - they're rough and rubbish too. Ok for a lunchtime laugh I suppose but dont hang around.

The Harborne Stores, Harborne

Harborne has become the area for "newvo" rich types and is gererally a respectable drinking area. However, it does have it's share of tattooed, knife-wielding in-breds who'd rather attempt to punch their own lights out than to sober up. They are located in The Stores.

The Amberwood Inn, Walkford

It always has a great atmosphere and the friday night bands add to the buzz without taking over conpletely in that you can still find a corner to talk in if you want. Lunchtimes are quieter so it's an ideal daytime chill-out venue. The food tables are in a seperate area to the main bar which is better for a large eating group. The food itself has always been excellent and the selection and menus are a cut above the usual pub "fayre" (- well done to the chefs!) This often means that you need to ring and book a table as it can get busy, especially weekends. Worth the effort though, I've eaten here a few times now. The staff are friendly enough and the beers are well kept with some good real ales. In fact it's good to know that you'll get a pint that tastes great rather than tasting like it's name!!!

The Selly Park Tavern, Selly Oak

Well we won the sunday night quiz recently, Hurrah!!!
However, most people are tapping on their blackberrys and mobiles so you can only win by luck and not by having your brainy mate with you. Also, they now have some little girly compering it and she's rubbish to the point of irritation what with her nervous laughing and inablity to read the questions properly! The beer is supermarket stuff so nothing to get excited about. The pub "fayre" is on a similar low level too. The one plus point though is that in this area it is a boring but safe venue so you if you're fairly normal and not some knife-wielding, tattooed Jeremy Kyle reject then you can have a reasonable night with a few mates and partners (if you are, then The Hiberenian isn't too far away)

The White Horse, Harborne

This used to be the best pub i nHarborne but a couple of yeass ago they put in that huge great bar which takes up far too much room. It was a small place anyway but now the staff have more room than the punters so dont bother with here unless you to stand shoulder to shoulder. It's also become another "sporty" venue full of rubbish pseudos getting loud and pissed whenever the footy/rugby/cricket is on. The beer selections are good though but dont make up for it being claustrophic.

The Sportsman Inn, Harborne

Best place on a warm evening. The great garden is ideal for sicking up in towards the end of a harborne pub crawl.
