The Brook, Sale

Nice enough pub beside Brooklands Metro Station. Has a nice interior, friendly staff and had three JW Lees ales on handpump when I visited. There's an upstairs room and an outside, covered heated area too. This place is always busy when I go past and I can see why. Not bad for a few beers before heading into town.

The Coach and Horses, Norwich

A great pub with a mixed crowd and friendly staff who'll let you try a beer before buying it.

Attached to the Chalk Hill Brewery, they have a selection of real ales brewed on the premises that are highly recommended. Well worth a visit.

The Hare and Hounds Hotel, Timperley

I visited mid-week and it was very quiet. A chain pub atmosphere with a few real ales on. But it closed at 9.30pm and was mostly empty by then with the doors locked to prevent any new punters entering. Probably good for food earlier, but not really a drinkers pub at all. Avoid this if you just fancy a pint.

57 Thomas Street, Manchester

It has the excellent Marble Beers on draught and in bottles. It has a much younger clientle than can be found in the Marble Arch. However, there is not much space in here and it is always very busy, so I was forced to stand right by the door feeling cold.

The Bulls Head, Manchester

Nice pub, good range of beers, but overpriced for real ales.

The King's Head, Huddersfield

Huge indoor space that was quite sparse and rather empty. Minimal furnishings do not detract from the cheap prices for an excellent selection of real ales that were well kept. This place was not as nice inside as the other at the end of the platform, but I preferred it for the beer.

The Head of Steam, Huddersfield

A pretty good pub with lots of room providing plenty of space for the many people here. Service was reasonably quick despite the number here. Sam Smiths, Blacksheep and a few other ales were on and in good nick. I liked this pub, but I preferred the other one at the end of the platform that was a "spit and sawdust" place.

The West Riding Refreshment Rooms, Dewsbury

Excellent pub and a good place to start the Ale Trail to Manchester. A wide selection of real ales, all very well kept and breakfast (full or veggie English) served from 10 to 4 (pint included). Very busy, but the staff make sure you don't wait very long. Pleasant atmosphere inside, more like a real pub that a station bar.

The Crown and Cushion, Manchester

THIS PUB HAS NOW CLOSED.

I live near this and can report that it is closed with all the windows boarded up.

The Athenaeum, Manchester

THIS BAR HAS NOW CLOSED FOR GOOD!

It is now a restaurant called "Browns".

The Midland Hotel, Marple Bridge

Nice pub beside the river with an outdoor area if the weather is good. Seems to be a rather upmarket place rather than a standard boozer. When I visited there should have been three real ales on, but all were off leaving me only with the choice of lager or Guinness.
