The Sun Inn, Reading

This is a story of a pub with a lot of potential but the no one with the will to make it what it could be. I was there this week with my girlfriend when she was covering the pub while they decided what to do with the pub.

Although the pub, like many, needs some love and attention; bit of cleaning and decorating; it is essentially a good pub with some really good punters who started coming back after a bad experience with the previous landlord.

Yeah it needs some work but the potential is clear, the pub could be such a good pub in the hands of a good friendly landlord/lady and a good management company. It wouldn't take much and taking improved vastly in the week I was there.

Unfortunately today we left and they were shutting the pub down, hopefully only in the short term, but it was such a shame to leave the pub as maybe the last people that drink in there.

Thanks to the customers for making us feel welcome, it always helps in that sort of business and lets hope someone with some ambition takes over the pub.

The Raven, Bath

Great pub, go in there. Nothing really bad to say about the place, prices are fine and food is great as well. Personally the Raven Gold is the best pint I have drunk in Bath. As a previous post said, this and the Salamader are very close but this pub just wins. But there so close just go in both!

The Royal Oak, Bath

In my top 3 pubs in Bath, beer is excellent and a good choice. People are really nice as well, never any trouble and a good function room out the back that is used for big football/rugby matches. Also nice garden. If I had to be picky the toilets could do with a bit of a redecor but apart from that its great!

The Rat and Parrot, Bath

If your really upbeat and need to reduce your euphoria then this is the place to go. It is completely souless and I find I am always keeping an eye on whats going on. This place also has the worst toilets in Bath. Don't know anything else about it, just save your money.

The Pig and Fiddle, Bath

Absolutely great pub for everybody, unfortunately its popularity can make it a real nightmare. You can be continually bumped and bashed as it is not the biggest of places especially by the bar. Love the beer and it is always good quality whether you like lager or beers. As a smoker it is friendly place as well. One of my fave pubs

O'Neill's, Bath

This pub was okay and used to have a really good dancefloor and dj on on Fridays and Saturday nights. The bouncers are a recent and concerning addition but I have never seen any fighting or problems. The beer is okay and the venue is okay in the day to watch the footie/rugby. Is no better than reasonable but what do you expect from a theme pub chain?

The Litten Tree, Bath

Nice from the outside and thats where you want to stay, genarally full of chavs who want to fight. I have seen a few fights here - mostly during and after the sports showing on the big screen. Single handedly the pub I have seen all the fights in Bath. Terrible selection of beer and the food is hit and miss.

Lambrettas Bar, Bath

Great pub, great atmosphere and a great selection of beers and lagers. I find this place really cool and unintimidiating and is priced in line with most other bars around. Probably my favourite bar in Bath, has everything just about right. Go in there!

The Lamb and Lion, Bath

I feel really threatened when I go in here - it wouldn't take much to get in a fight. Cheap beer but is it really worth it.

The King of Wessex, Bath

Lets be honest Wetherspoons will only ever be for the cheap beer. It does that really well and there is always a good selection. Ditto on previous posts about the staff, I aged 1 year and 2 months while waiting for a drink once - should have just walked out. Lol. Anyway the place has nothing other than that, it is a soul destroying place with no atmosphere and I must say is one of the worst Wetherspoons I have been to.

The Huntsman Inn, Bath

Reading the previous post it would make it seem there is always trouble in the Huntsman but I have never seen any, not in the main bar anyway. I don't tend to stay late or go upstairs though so maybe thats where the trouble is. Has a good pint of Bellringer ans the staff are alway good and friendly. A nice big place that you can get a seat in or lean at the bar without having to move every 2 seconds. Gets a good score on my reckoning.

The Hobgoblin, Bath

I am not a fan of these sort of pubs - each to their own I suppose. What I can say is the beer was good, friendly bar staff but the pub was dark and gloomy with headbanging music on. Not one I will be repeating.

The Tram Shed, Bath

Went there with work mates once, that was enough for me.

Flan O'Briens, Bath

Okay its a bit on the pricey side but it has always been good in there and I find it doesn't try and throw the whole Paddy theme on you which is nice. Watched many a game of footie and rugby in there and always enjoyed it.

The Crystal Palace Tavern, Bath

Been here many times with work and with friends, the only fault I ever have with it is the prices, it is expensive! Other than that it has a good seating capacity inside and then for the smokers or in the summer the garden is superb for a pub in the centre of Bath. Always worth a visit

All Bar One, Bath

Can't say I am a big fan but it seems to do something right - it is always busy when I walk by. I am not adverse to continential lagers but the prices are a real put off.

The Alehouse, Bath

Not a bad pub for one or two, anymore and it gets very boring. I never have a bad beer there but usually nothing is really going on and you are looking around for something to amuse you - take a paper or some friends!
