Brentwood Bitter was OK, but I nearly before I got any as service was appalling. Pub was basically empty in early evening midweek and barmaids stood around drinking tea or coffee in the back room and chatting, while the customers need serving.

Now called George II. I think it's a gay pub as there's so many blokes in it - well judging from those outside.

The Fatling and Firkin, Hornchurch
£2.50 for a pint of real ale on the production of a CAMRA membership card and every sixth pint free if you get a pub card stamped. Beer is very good, but bar staff have to ask their supervisor on how to work the till for the discount.

The King Edward VII, Stratford
The pub itself is a gem, but I can't say anything positive about the beer, service or food. Food is expensive twaddle, the beer is at best variable and the service appalling. The barman did not understand what I was ordering and so I resorted to pointing at a pump and indicating one pint. Maybe he was trying to say it was off, because it was and then I spent ages trying to tell him so and get a replacement.
I'm sorry to say that I have stopped using this pub.

Beer quality is suspect in this pub and the staff don't know anything about it, but worth a visit if you can afford it.

A good pub, but the beers on when I was there, were GK IPA, Marstons Bitter and Courage Best. When I asked for local beer, the barmaid didn't understand, nor did she when I asked for a top up. I asked whether some of the beers were on electric pump or gas and that was beyond her. Had a pint and went to the Ha'Penny for Liberation Ale.

Pub is OK, but not sure about on a Friday or Saturday night. Brakspear beer range is cheap.

The Pride of Spitalfields, Shoreditch
Lovely pub. Gets packed though.
Don't expect to get a pint of the Brewers Gold after Thursday as it will have run out. You will have to put up with the well kept, but sadly inferior Doombar and Fullers ales. Why they can't scrap the Doombar and get more Brewers, I really don't know.

Been back a few times since Bill left. Not the same anymore. Young's was OK, but pub has deservedly lost any mention in the GBG. Locals at bar are typical Essex boys - drunk, loud and embarrassing. Back to Wetherspoon's then.

Oh dear what a crap place. Real Ale badly kept and when it runs out, they don't turn the clips round to indicate it's off. Ordering is a bit like in The Cheese Shop from Monty Python - Bombardier ?- sorry off, Adnams ? - on order, London Pride ? - just sold the last pint. This is not really a pub is it ? Barmaids more interested in doing their stock checks, glass collecting and talking to mates rather than serving - the customer does NOT come first here. Takes forever to get served. Avoid this pub. Oh and it's full of thick, Essex chavs and their kids.

Dump. Crap service. Bar staff serve their mates first. Beer awful. I prefer JJ Moons across the road, so that's saying something eh ?

Can confirm the landlord doesn't like serving tap water. I have reported him to trading standards, who will be paying a visit soon. Else a fine pub and fine beer, even if the guv is a bit stroppy.

20 years ago, a must go in for a drink pub with loads of good real ale. Now stupid bar staff and crap beer.

The Riga Music Bar, Westcliff On Sea
A no smoking bar in which to watch some excellent live music.

The Last Post, Southend on Sea
Pub is the second best in Southend which isn't saying much. The pub is badly managed, because it frequently runs out of real ale, especially when I'm there to drink it. The staff don't know how to change a barrel even if they had one to change. Useless.

Best pub in the area. CAMRA, award winning the "Pub of the Year" for 5 out of the last 6 years! Excellent quality beer and very good prices. Shows all sporting events, which is not bad for a just a local.

Excellent beer and regularly wins CAMRA pub of the year for the area. haven't seen it crowded for years, but well worth a visit.

The Cleave, Lustleigh
Not a bad pub to head for while on a walk. There's a decent front snug bar and a rather bland back bar. The beer isn't bad (Otter), but neither is it over wonderful (£3.20 pp).
The food is outrageously expensive and is of rather small portions for what you pay, so take your own and sit in the garden or buy some from the nearby shop. However, the food is very good (poncy), but probably not what is needed for the sort of passing trade they get.
