The Porter and Sorter, Croydon

The plus point of this pub is its proximity to the station - very handy.

Minus points. You can really smell the toilets, its infested with fruit flies in warmer months and the food is basic pull it out of the freezer, bang in the fryer type fare. Its over light and not really a comfy place to enjoy a drink. Its pretty tatty and could do with a lick of paint.

Having said that, the beer is ok, nothing too much to complain about, its never going to win awards, but its not poor. I've never really noticed the short measures, but have seen the grumpy bar staff.

Its a handy pub and a little bit of investment in key areas (including an air freshner for the toilets) could make this place a cracker, but its falling short currently.

Ryans Bar, Purley

I went to this pub and as Ryans and saw that it had changed to Brass Monkey so checked it out. Its a much smarter bar with a nice atmosphere and friendly attentive staff and reasonably priced cool crisp beer.
I noticed a food bar and a pool table that were previously not there too.
The new colour scheme is great and much more classy than the old colours - seems this pub is really on the up

Monkseaton Arms, Monkseaton

Very popular locals pub. Beer and wine are kept to a decent standard - nothing special but in no way a bad pub!

The Briar Dene, Whitley Bay

It can be a bit souless at times - especially on the weekends when everybody and his dog turns up for food.

Crown, Shirley

This is a chain pub owned by Mitchells and Butler trading under the Ember Inns Brand. The Food is just awful, over cooked steaks and burgers that look like the come out of a tin. The atmosphere is that of a chain, ie Harvester, Brewsters and the like. Its not a comfy pub to go have a pint and a relax as it is pretty souless. The Beer is maintained to a decent quality and good selection of wine, but that doesnt make up for the void in the atmosphere.

42nd Street, Whitley Bay

Re Below - There is a great reason not to have a night out in Whitley Bay. Its full of nasty women with blotchy legs staggering around the town and into this bar, screaming loudly and draping themselves over anything male - and the males - all dressed in the uniform blue checked shirts and over powering aftershave or vain and obnoxious prats spoiling for a fight. I know - I lived there for 30 years!!!
42nd has been a Whitley stalwart for around 20 years and in its time has won awards, it is one of the better bars in Whitley Bay, but that in itself doesnt say much.

Prague, Whitley Bay

I gave this place a rating of "one" and this is because the ceiling wasnt leaking on a rainy day. Nothing good can be said about this horrible place. The clients there wouldnt even get a rating of one by the way

The Malt Shovel, Uxbridge

Please dont ever describe this place as a Gastro-pub. Just because it serves decent food - it doesnt rank it in the eschelons of gastro-pub. This is a food chain within a pub. The food is good and its in a nice spot, especially in the summer. Its great for a lunch out. The beer and wine is ok too. - Nothing offensive about this place in the slightest, as long as you accept it for what it is - Its not a boozer and it doesnt served gastro food! - Just decent tucker

Swan, Iver

This is a nice pub these days. Food is great and beer and wine are good too - Over priced though- it doesnt make for a reasonable night or afternoon out.
If you overlook that or your wallet can take it, then head on down there for a nice sunday afternoon with great food.

Lord Homesdale, Bromley

Oooh we went in there one night while waiting for the take-away we had ordered. It was a friday night and there was a sign up advertising Pole Dancnig the next weekend - and she was bringing her own pole !!!
Its a rotten pub with so much potential to be a good local boozer but the management seem in tune with the pikeys that go in there. They sell wine in those little bottles you get on a flight - Niiiice!. Just avoid it unless you live in a caravan, drive a souped up hot hatch or think you are the local hard man - in those cases you will be fine.

Tiger Tiger, Croydon

OH MY WORD !!! This place is Chav heaven. If you have ever wanted to study the Chav close up here is the place to go.
The floors are sticky, the perfume is an overpowering mix aftershave and perfume from heavily dosed up metrosexual males with bad hair and even nastier shoes and perma tanned orange girls and ironed hair.
Watch your handbag and your wallet, its over priced.
I will never darken its burberry coated doors again.

The Oval Tavern, Croydon

Ooooh this is nice friendly pub. Its dark and heavily beamed with nice big tables in nooks to sit at. Beer is great and with guest ales too. - not badly priced. The music is an eclectic mix of 60's rock and mowtown and the staff are really friendly - just like a welcoming boozer should be. Its a little gem.

Ryans Bar, Purley

This pub has now had a change of management - and for the better - its been refurbished, pool table etc and not the pub it used to be. Think a change of name is on the cards too !
So long Ryans!
