We visted the malt shovel early may the food was ok BUT portions were far from generous so to make up for it we ordered a sweet only to find that also was small and the custard was only luke warm,,, unlikely to return audigordy - 18 May 2012 12:03
Typical Vintage Inns decor and menu, which is as good as it gets for a chain pub, 3 real ales on, all in good condition. Very friendly and efficient service and a nice location by the canal. Overall a good pub but not exceptional. Randyray - 25 Oct 2011 21:08
Lovely big garden area which is great for the summer. Had a delicious black pudding and poached egg salad and will be returning if/when the sun does. southendjames - 21 Jun 2010 16:57
Lovely little place, especially in the summer when you can walk by the canal after dinner. There is a nice and friendly atmosphere in here and I have been back several times to have dinner with the family. The bar area was quite small. When I was in there last, all the seats inside were taken so we just went straight to our table. Slightly disappointing, that there wasn't space to have a drink before the meal. However the food is nice - Quite a variety on the menu; from beef burgers and sausages to a few pasta dishes. I thought the portions were quite generous too! Definitely somewhere to try if you haven't been before. 8/10 VodkaDouble - 10 Apr 2010 00:15
The usual dependable offering from Vintage Inns with the added bonus of a pleasant canalside setting. Beers: London Pride, John Smith, Timothy Taylor. rentaquote - 17 Jan 2009 09:45
