Robert Fitz Harding, Bedminster

DavidSmall123 seems to forget that this is a pub and if he wants a coffee he should go to a COFFEE SHOP! Wetherspoon's are notoriously understaffed so I can't believe that the people "standing around chatting" were bar staff.
Having said that, I've had no delays getting served in each of my regular visits and there's a fine range of beers of beers on at the moment with a lot of local brewers represented. Well worth a visit.

The Coronation, Bedminster

Just want to endorse AEM's comments.
Basically a class, no frills neighbourhood boozer. You can chat to the regulars about politics, X-Factor or City, or just bury your nose in a book or the papers whist sampling a pint of the fine Hopback range. Usually 5 Hopback beers and one or two guests. The guest scrumpy policy seems to have disappeared though as it's now Weston's Trad(?) on permanently.

Tobacco Factory, Southville

I actually suggested this place to BITE last year but haven't commented until now. (And it's not good......)
Full of yummy-mummies & arty-farty meejah types with their screaming, bawling progeny. It's like a creche sometimes! The glare from the assorted laptops must be a health hazard. The staff preen & pose and eventually serve you. Only worth visting for a quick drink before going to Teoh's restaurant next door.

The Old Ship, Brighouse

What a transformation! When I lived in Brighouse this was the Prince of Wales and was such a dive. Fascia built with timbers from a sunken 19th Cent sailing ship. Now tastefully renovated & refurbed with when I last visited four cask ales on. Food also available.
Sadly though seems to be struggling against the cheap prices at the Richard Oastler Wetherspoon's on the same street. here's hoping the Brighouse ale drinkers give it some support.

Three Pigeons, Halifax

Ossett brewery house with at least 7 ales on. The interior has to be seen to be believed with all the original rooms left intact & not knocked through. An essential calling point when visiting Halifax (along with the Pump Room, & The Shears)
Turn left from the station towards The Shay, just past Eureka.

Shears Inn, Halifax

Only difficult to find the first ten visits!
Absolute gem of a pub dating from the early 17th century. Up to 3 Taylor's beers plus guest. Excellent food, proper hearty pub fare.
Directions: Get a taxi! Or if brave, from station follow signs to the Shay, then head up to the block of flats and down the cobbled hill towards the big chimney. Or get a taxi.

Seven Stars Inn, Exeter

Goes under Ember Inns banner part of the M&B conglomerate that also run Goose, All-Bar-One, Flares, O'Neills, Express by Holiday Inn & Hollywood Bowl brands amongst others, so don't get too excited!
Modern interior with passable, if unexciting guest beers, some at 1.99. Food similar to Wetherspoons i.e. "Curry Night" & "Grill Night" and ridiculously cheap. Not a bad pub to be honest, just a little soulless. Handy if you live in the estate behind (likes what I does)

The Fat Pig, Exeter

Once The Coachmakers now reopened by Hamish & Rob Lothian as a gastropub. Stripped floorboards & chunky beech furniture give the place an open, airy feel. Three cask ales on plus scrumpy which was Thatchers last time I was in. Hopefully a Devon cider may be in evidence soon!
Excellent food, a bit pricier than normal pub fare but reflected in the quality & imaginative dishes.
Would've scored higher but for disabled access from street and to the toilets. I'll speak to them about this next time I'm in and report back. Otherwise top pub that's deparately needed in Exeter centre.

The First and Last Inn, Exeter

Recently renovated Hopback Brewery pub with full range of their ales plus Devon guest beer & Weston's scrumpy. Locals' boozer full of character(s) with eclectic juke box and pool table. Beer festival coming up too.
Well worth a visit, about 10 minutes walk from St Thomas' station or get buses 'A' or 'E' from city centre.

The Double Locks, Exeter

Superb pub serving a selection of Devon beers. Gets busy at weekend, traditional pub food without a 'jus' in sight. Cracking location spring & summer, log fire autumn & winter. Wheelchair accessable too.

The Nova Scotia, Bristol

One of Bristol's best pubs. Great ales, cider & food. Friendly anf full of character, I defy anyone to go in here & not strike up a conversation with a stranger. And beautiful bar maids too!

The Old Duke, Bristol

I don't know what's happening in the Old Duke at the moment. The bunch of misfits behind the bar seem only want to roll fags and serve their equally soap dodging mates. This pub is now living on it's past reputation only.

The Somerset House, Bristol

Now taken over by the people from the Rose of Denmark and what a transformation! Gone is the dark and gloomy interior with the smelly carpet and in it's place stripped floors and rustic woody furniture. Beer from gravity behind bar - Butcombe & Bass - didn't see a guest. A welcome oasis in the Kensington of Bristol.

4 Dec 2007 14:47

The Adam and Eve, Bristol

Excellent ales and really good value food that could be pricier giving it's location. Normally four real ales and Addlestone's cloudy cider. Well worth a visit.

4 Dec 2007 14:40

The Rose of Denmark, Bristol

Joan Crawford's comment has remained on a year, so it's about time to update.
This is a great pub serving Bass & Butcombe from gravity & a (sadly uninspiring - probably not landlord's choice either) guest pump on the bar. Thatcher's Trad on handpull too for those on a tight budget! Food looks excellent(not tried it yet) and there is a seperate restaurant downstairs.

4 Dec 2007 14:39

The Bag O' Nails, Bristol

A great pub not compromising to trends. Recent beer festival was a great success (as a drinker!)with some unusual ales on offer and all excellent. Congrats to the management & staff.

4 Dec 2007 14:23

The Plume of Feathers, Bristol

Now re-opened, is it linked to the new Italian next door? Good choice of drinks and live music planned. Seems promising!

9 Nov 2007 12:01

The Hope and Anchor, Bristol

Tried it again last night. It's a bit foodie and 2.90 a pint is taking the p*ss a bit, especially when the Bag O'Nails is 5 minutes walk away. The Clifton factor I presume?

9 Nov 2007 11:54

Hogshead, Bristol

Inexplicably closed and will soon be La Tasca tapas bar!! Didn't mind Bar Excellence & Yate's closing but this???

9 Nov 2007 11:51

The Orchard Inn, Bristol

Can't disagree more with the last two comments, but if you're planning a special trip out to it then may be worth a bit of planning as I believe that they close at 3 p.m. some days. (Please correct me if I'm wrong as I don't want to do the place a disservice!)

8 Aug 2007 14:24

The Cottage Inn, Bristol

6 for bread & cheese not expensive?? Not one of my favourite pubs but redeemed by the views over the harbour

3 Aug 2007 15:23

The Plume of Feathers, Bristol

Closed at the moment

28 Jun 2007 13:01

The Spring Gardens, Hotwells

Now called La Demi Lune or something and is a full on bistro without any seperate bar.....

28 Jun 2007 13:00

The Star Inn, Lockwood

Can't believe that no-ones commentated on this pub for over 2 years!
Well, it's still fantastic, with a range of ales I've never seen before, including at the moment a decent selection of milds. Worth noting that they've already gone smokeless. Pure class!

31 May 2007 11:50

The White Lion, Bristol

One of the best pubs in Bristle (and there's some beauties in thsi city!) Met the love of my life here in 2001. Sadly, she and the jukebox are gone now but the White Lion goes on and looking at Les's grumpy face cheers me up all the time!

24 May 2007 11:04

The Duck and Drake, Leeds

Whilst I agree with the comments regarding the beer & live music, but after returning to Leeds after 12yrs away it was a bit like visiting an old friend who is terminally ill. I love the D&D & the spirit is still there but outwardly the place is in need of some TLC especially as Leeds centre is becoming a real-ale desert.
