What a great return visit after a couple of years. Very friendly pub with a great selection of beer. The new landlord chap with a beard was very helpful and knowledgeable about the beers. Liked the music and the pub cat.

South Yorkshireman, I don't know what my barman, Tom did to annoy you, but I frankly don't believe your words. I think that you are lying. All I hear from my customers about Tom is how friendly and knowledgeable he is, and for you to say that 'The main subject amongst the customers however' was Tom's attitude is just bullshit.
One of my customers noticed you and your friends, and says that you were pretty pissed and noticeably obnoxious by the time you had made it to my pub. That's what he says anyway. I wasn't there.

Visited this pub on a saturday night, after catching a short taxi ride from the city centre. Whilst the pub itself ticked a lot of boxes, it was let down by the barman.
The pub is small and quite dark, offering a nice homely feel, whilst the range of real ales was reasonable. Some local lads in the bar were friendly and overall, this should have been a good visit.
The main subject amongst the customers however, was the young barman, who had either worked far too many hours or had just suffered a serious humour bypass. He was surly, disinterested, and made the least amount of effort possible to show any interest whatsoever in serving beer or adding to any kind of atmosphere.
It was a shame, that a pub should suffer from a barman like this, but in a small pub, this role can have a great effect, or in this case, a detrimental one.

Finally got around to popping into the reopened Bag O'Nails and it's just as great as it ever was, maybe moreso with the refurnishing. The number of beers wasn't as big as I've known it in the past, but still a good choice and although the prices have risen a little I'm not going to complain about a landlord trying not to go broke.

No kids, you say? Great. When were they ever allowed in this pub? And if the odd rude word on a blackboard is gonna keep some people away, then boo hoo. I won't miss them. Rubbish toilets, you say? Yeah well I don't really go to pubs for the toilets. I go for good beer and a good atmosphere and this has both. Could do with some better music though :P

I have joined beer in the evening to make my thoughts known about the Bag O Nails. I don't see the problem with this, each opinion (good or bad) is as valid as anybody elses and this is the point of the website.

The landlord is correct in suggesting "It's my pub and I'll do what I want with it". There are after all plenty of pubs in Bristol to choose from.

I will continue as I aways have to vote with my feet.
