its amazing how many comments on st andrews pubs chastise students, when students keep most of them in business .. students from st salvators across the road often drink in the castle. a low key bar.

a typically pointless "irish bar" .. was once 'the criterion' a characterful 'town and gown' bar .. but like quite a few of the pubs in town, the breweries have had their wicked way with it.

broons have budvar's budweiser on draught, unusual round these parts. when its not a special night (packing the punters in sardine style) the surroundings are pleasant

The Whey Pat Tavern, St Andrews
some sort of after taste, either from dirty pipes or something in the washing of the glasses, ruins the beer for me in this bar .. a pity, for apart from that its a good pub

new management, since Andy's post (17 Feb 2004), have killed this bar, decor is blatantly tasteless and bolted down ... their new fomula concentrates on binge drinking nights

a cliquey bar for locals, but people quite friendly ... standard range of mainstream beer
