user reviews of Broons, St Andrews

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Those damn students - anyone would think they financially supported this town. Fancy them wanting to enjoy a drink in the town's pubs....

Seriously, this student bashing culture is getting tedious.

Anyway, Broons, having been part of the Howies chain of restaurants for a while now appears to have completely rebranded itself losing all "Broons" identity.

broons have budvar's budweiser on draught, unusual round these parts. when its not a special night (packing the punters in sardine style) the surroundings are pleasant

Situated next to the cinema in St. Andrews, Broons has a small terrace at ground level, while the rest of the bar is upstairs in the building behind. On the whole, this is a lager bar - no handpull, and only a small selection of beers. Plus, it can pull in the "Yah, Daddy bought me the Mercedes" and "Yah, I play rugger, now I'm going give you a kicking" student crowd. Which is a bit of a shame.

However, once the students have vanished for summer, this is quite a relaxing, friendly kinda place, with light-white-and-wood style decor and (although I haven't tried it) apparantly decent food. One thing that is superb is the hot chocolate (complete with cream & marshmallows) - the only thing that can warm you up enough to drink beer once you've been outside on the beach...
