If your idea of a fun night out is being surrounded by a bunch of angst-ridden, 6th year poets then this is the place for you. Abysmal service, tasteless food, all round grim decor and an inability to understand the importance of ice in a drink makes this bar a throw back to the 70's. Yes it does have a selection of good beers but that doesn't remove its obligation to have toilets that don't make you gag - Avoid at all costs! Humidor - 19 Jan 2007 01:26
Good for the belgian beers but bad for cask ales. pipes for the cask beers seem not to be cleaned leading to unpleasant aftertaste. Range not so great, restricted to thick sweet Scotch type beers from th likes of orkney. A very popular town centre pub split between two levels. upstairs is an open european style cafe bar with a good selection of cake and other cooked food available. downstairs a very dingy basement bar, which is not as smokey as was thanks to the ban but still can be unpleasant at peak times. Attracts a very leftfield clientele, live ethno-jock music only for the fan thereof in the week. Music on the speakers seems always to be just that bit too loud for relaxed conversation. would recomend a visit early doors before it gets too packed. longsdon - 17 Dec 2006 17:48

Great range of lagers and beers: everyone should be happy with the beer here. Some of the guest beers are from smaller breweries, so be prepared to take pot luck. The downstairs bar may be too smokey (and hot) for some. rwb - 8 Aug 2005 19:14
Wide array of foreign (pricey) beers, but also a reasonable whisky selection. Nice atmosphere, seemed to have plenty events going on. Muzthing - 4 Aug 2005 11:18
