The Victoria Inn, Rugby

Old fashioned pub with traditional interior. Fantastic choice of real ales on offer. There was also a beer festival under canvas in the garden. All ales sampled were top quality.

The Squirrel Inn, Rugby

Very small town pub with a nice atmosphere. Good selection of real ales. Beer seems to be well kept but only tried one, Elderwytch, which was very nice. There was also a jazz band playing when I visited. Live music regularly on Sat night.

The Old White Hart, Lyddington

Went for a meal with my wife recently. I have to say, WOW, what a great place this is! The Old White Hart is largely set up for food but does have a traditional bar area as well as a very pleasant garden. Old fashioned and full of genuine charm, has separate restaurant areas upstairs and other rooms away from the bar. The food is of outstanding quality and all freshly cooked, it is not cheap but not ridiculously expensive either. Seems to get quite busy at the weekend especially Sat night but has a great asmosphere. The only downside is that the beer could have been better kept. I had Grainstore Triple B and Kelham Island Pale Rider, both of which were cloudy. However this didn't affect the taste at all and certainly didn't stop me from drinking plenty of it! (on another day the beer might be better). A good time was enjoyed and I would certainly recommend The Old White Hart.

Mulberry Tree, Leicester

This pub changed its name back to The White Horse a while ago. I visited last night after a couple of years since my previous visit. Enjoyed a very pleasant walk beforehand around Watermead Park and canalside. Sat in the garden of The White Horse with a pint of Jennings Cumberland Ale. Unfortunately this wasn't quite so pleasant, it was just about passable and probably on the turn. Thought I would try a different ale, this time a McMullens Country Bitter. Now this was a much better pint but was looked at in astonishment when I asked the girl behind the bar to top up my short measure of a pint.
All in all not a bad pub in a great location, however my visit this time reminds me why it had been so long since my previous visit. They need to try a bit harder!

The White House, Scraptoft

This is my favouite pub at the moment. Only reopened about 5 or 6 weeks ago after a major refurbishment to a very high standard by the new owners Wetherspoons.
Top quality real ales, usually about 6 or 7 to choose from at 2 different bars, and only 2.35 a pint!! There is plenty of good quality seating inside, a small patio area and quite a large garden. The food is the usual wetherspoon's offering but the quality seems to be better here than other 'spoons. The staff are always polite and the atmosphere is very pleasant.

The Swan, Coombe Hill

My wife and I passed this pub a number of times during our recent stay in Gloucester and thought that this would be a nice place to eat and hopefully find a nice pint. I visited their website and upon finding that it had been awarded a CAMRA Pub of the Season award I thought we should investigate further.
I have to say that the food was rather nice (although not that special). But that, I'm afraid, is where my positive comments end. The beer was quite substandard for a CAMRA rated pub. My first pint was a rather mediocre Buttcombe Bitter followed by a pint of Jouster which was cloudy and yeasty - so bad that at this point I left half of my pint and went to pay the bill. This is where the poor service really showed up! We had been at the pub for just over an hour and the bill (2 fish & chips, 2 pints and 1 G&T) came to 37.90!!! After checking the bill it turns out that I was charged for drinks that I hadn't ordered. I was offered a half-hearted apology and refunded the difference.
It was only later that I realised that I was also charged for other items that I had not actually ordered, but by this time it was too late.
The whole experience left me feeling rather cheated - I would certainly not recommend this pub to anyone!!!
