Looks like a bar from the outside, but inside it's an airy mediocre pub with wooden bar and quick, efficient service. Good convenient place to stop in for a drink, with Peroni on tap.

This is a great place to go with team workmates. You can stand outside,(well you have to as it gets very crowded) and meet other city workers. The service was excellent and the beer (stella) was very good. We didn't get around to have any food, but Andrew munched through some packets of crisps.

I used to drink in here occasionally when I used to work in the area and it was a Hogshead, but today’s visit was my first in a long time. Aside from a few minor changes (plasma screen on the wall), the interior hasn’t changed a great deal. It still retains that wooden look and dull and bland feel of old. The staff are friendly, yet somewhat robotic and I got the untimely reminder of how dear it is in the area. To conclude, The Monument is a decent enough place for a drink or two after work, but really isn’t a place to look out for otherwise.

Now called "The Monument".

Another Hogshead/Greene King conversion, but this place is a bit more spacious and with a decent, long bar.

The interior is the bog-standard and the usual Greene King ales on, although the seasonal, citrusy Ale Fresco was an absolute delight. Alas my companion opted for this awful faddy Magners stuff (with added sulphates), which came in at almost a whopping £4. I love the fact it is served with ice: “Yes please barman, if you could water down my pint for me that would be great.” (Apologies, I’m a West Country boy used to proper scrumpy, so I am probably just being a bit prejudiced.)

Although when you’ve seen one Greene King pub you’ve pretty much seen ‘em al, they are at the higher end of the chain pub, er, chain.
