In what is a desert area for pubs, this is an oasis. Quite a trendy place; three beers on handpump and a decent wine list.

Pubs like this are hard to find; a pleasant place to drink with a great set up for watching football (two projectors and two big screens). Also does a very good quality roast.

Good beer and fantastic food at this pub, especially Sunday roasts.

However.

Am I alone in finding the practice of reserving tables in a ‘public house’ abhorrent?

Turned up last Sunday to find nearly every table reserved but no-one sitting at them. We located a table round the back and were about to sit down when a surly member of staff asked ‘do you have to sit there? Can’t you sit here?’ pointing to a table for two (there were three of us) near the toilet door.

He went on to say if more people turn up there won’t be any space for them. I pointed out this was the only table not reserved and no-one was sitting at these anyway. He tutted and turned away. We were close to walking out but found a table near the bar which was ok.

It was worth hanging on for the food but I think certain members of staff there could benefit from a customer care course.

Fairly pretentious corner pub in the back streets of Clapham. It's reasonably large, but was very quiet on my Monday afternoon visit. Food is clearly one of its main raison d'etres these days. Although there does appear to be a theatre either behind or above the pub. Service didn't appear particularly friendly. The price was mumbled at me and there were no please or thank you's. Old Speckled Hen & Old Hooky were the beers. The best of the ciders was Stowford Press. Probably fairly popular with the trendy Clapham upper-middle classes. But I didn't find anything to warrant me going back for.

Bit of a moan about the food here, ordered fish and chips quite expensive, nine quid for a measely portion and its not even cod, they serve you coley of all things. If my memory serves me I think we used to feed this to our cat as it was so cheap..Wouldnt recomend, rather a rip off..
