The problem with the Six Bells is a lack of continuity. When they have a decent manager/landlord the place picks up and people DO use it. The problem is, they move on, an indifferent manager takes over and all the good work goes to waste. The Greene King tie doesn't help. Those fools just strangle whoever comes in. The beer was alright on my recent visit but the whole place could do with a spruce up! The smoking ban hit this pub hard. If it was a Free House and someone with an inkling of intelligence took it over it would flourish! misfithound - 20 Aug 2010 11:22
How many Phil Mitchell lookalikes can you fit into one pub? Try this place and you'll see for yourself. No Peggy behind the bar though - in fact for the first ten minutes after entering there was nobody behind the bar at all. The beer (when we were eventually served) was crap as well. Although the food looked reasonable we'd lost the will to live by then, let alone eat, so never got that far. Castiche - 9 Mar 2010 16:12
Used to be good, but went there recentlty and was pretty bad. Place is pretty knackered looking. Slightly uncomfortable atmosphere. Small selection of ales, but not very well kept. Heated smoking area is reasonable. Only stayed for 1 pint and was glad to get out of there. VastGirth - 25 Jan 2010 12:45
Visited on a Monday evening, when we had a lot of snow. Usually go to the Shep & Flock round the corner or others but thought would give the 6 Bells a go. First visit for me, and last. All we came for was the beer. Decor tired and locals ok, but that isn't important. We all had the Greene King IPA, one of our favourites. Difficult beer to murder but they managed it. Have never had such a bad pint, flat as old tinned beer. Then had the guest ale - Ossett's Big Red - tart, almost rancid, with very long bad after taste. Struggle to understand how 2 out of 3 real ales on offer can be so bad. Never again... Perhaps should have mentioned it to the landlord, but he should know his beers... zambo - 22 Dec 2009 20:20
First visit on a Sunday eve, and first impressions were good. Not the smartest pub around, but this was made up by the friendly staff and locals, and some well served ale. Only stayed for a pint, but will make the effort to return. Reckon this could be a corking boozer on a Friday / Saturday. Food is supposed to be good too. triumph - 4 Aug 2009 22:50
