Visited this pub Fri & Sun last. On both ocassions there were enough staff for the busy sessions. All staff showed me and my 2 children (14 & 10) courtesy and attention. Tamar (a bar maid) was particularly attentive to our food requirement in the very bust kitchen on Saturday. There was a delay because of them full and most customers eating, Tamar kept us informed. The only small dissapointment was the dessert, a bit over priced for the size of the potion. Keep up the good work all staff & Tamar ! DerekinSomerset - 16 Aug 2011 22:18
Large pub close to station with plenty of outdoor seating and good range of Ringwood beers. Our party of ten was served with decent and reasonably priced meals promptly and efficiently. rentaquote - 5 Jul 2011 22:20
Had a reasonable Pint of "Snake Catcher" (Really a renamed Ringwood Best Bitter) and a really nice Tuna & Onion Roll. The other food looked good as well. I was there at 14:00 and there was only one Bar Staff on Duty who was trying to do everything, Serve Drinks, Wait on Tables, Answer Phone and 101 other things. Result a LONG Wait for our food and the first choice was not available but was only discovered after I had paid for the required dish and the Kitchen had received the order from the Electronic Till. This place needs MORE STAFF and better communications. Very Clean Toilets but more like a Gastro pub or Wine Bar. With its bare wood flooring. Would go back again but not in a hurry!!!! Bitter_Man - 24 May 2011 18:03
I visited this pub twice over the summer holidays. The first time I was told that food stopped at 830., slightly surprised but the food we observed ( my two boys 8+ 10) looked good and appealing. I has a decent pint of ale and then left. Returned the next night and had some really good food and some good cask ale; I think it was Ringwood Best, all well kept.. My 10 yr old son noted that the mural art work depicted the legendary Harry Mills ( the snakecatcher of the New Fotrest) as having croaked in 1905 on the wall but 1902 in the menus and his last dink had changed from ale to rum. 'Whatever' may be the cry but sloppy atention to detail. However, that said the ale was good, the food was excellent and they charged my phone behind the bar. dadster53 - 13 Aug 2010 21:17
My suspicions are always aroused when I read a gushing review submitted by someone who only registered the previous day, has made no other postings since and in addition, hides their profile details - it invariably indicates that said reviewer is either the owner/manager of the establishment or someone who works there, and I'm sure my old chum and fellow reviewer, "Biker" will bear me out. This will be further confirmed should the reviewer report this posting for removal. As for not many pubs doing four largers, I don't know of one, let alone what a larger actually is! The Snakecatcher, which in time gone by was called The Railway Inn, is named after Harry "Brusher" Mills ( q.v.) - the local 19th century snakecatcher, and a lot of wall space is dedicated to him. It is, perhaps, a little too bright and airy as a result of the refurbishment, but I do not think that detracts from the character too much. I arrived very shortly after 11.00 and found a couple of staff members who had just finished the cleaning and obviously having had their customer service skills honed, possibly as a result of previous posting, received a very quaffable pint of Ringwood "Best". Also on offer were "Top Hat" ( 4.8% ), Marston's "Merry Monk" ( 4.4% ) and Ringwood "49er". If you're waiting for a train to take you to Lymington and fancy a pint, you could do a lot worse! 6/10. 5thearlofwimbourne - 23 Jun 2010 07:50
