Nice to see a pub that isn't serving Robinsons or Jennings - definitely the best pub in Grasmere, though there isn't really much competition. Tucked away behind the hotel, the bar has a good range of beers available, predominantly from the local area (Abbeydale, Yates and Coniston last week) and the regulars seem up for a bit of banter. What more could you ask for? monhiem1983 - 12 May 2012 16:53
An unlikely place to have a great range of beers in good condition. The tasting "bat", three differrent beers is an interesting idea. Big wood burning stove so cosy on a cold or damp day. Pricey but then it is a hotel and open most of the time. Pleasant garden and some parking (which can be difficult in Grasmere). Worth supporting pheon - 14 Jan 2012 15:51
Beer is fine but food is seriously over-priced. I paid nearly fourteen quid for a tiny curry that didnt even have any rice with it. No wonder they said (to my surprise) 'anything else'? when i ordered it! Beerwulf - 25 Oct 2011 21:27
Arrived just before the 3pm cut off time for lunchtime food and received such a barrage of sarcasm and rudeness from the barman on duty we almost walked out. Our need for sustinance having walked miles over the top from Great Langdale was the only reason we didn't leave. Luckily the visit was saved by the excellent beer, the very good food and the waitress who delivered the food being very polite and helpful. A great venue for beer and food and a fantastic garden - it just lacks some customer care training for certain male members of staff. BothamsAshes - 5 Aug 2011 16:19
Not very promising from the outside because it's part of a hotel, but the beers are very good and the staff are attentive. There's a garden for warm weather or sport on TV when it rains, so you can't go far wrong. 16jamesdoc - 18 Jul 2011 10:15
