| The Wooden Bridge has never had a particularly good reputation in Guildford although previously I'd always found it tolerable - it's a large out-of-town pub dominated by screens for sport-watching, with notably cheap (and cheerful) food and drink. On a recent visit, though, I felt it was looking sad and in need of a lick of paint - the gents' toilets nearest the road were particularly poor. The service was unfriendly too. Could do a lot better. grecian - 30 Dec 2009 14:30 |
| Found myself here this past Saturday afternoon (27 June) while looking at a property nearby. Passing a large rottweiller in the beer garden to enter a pub is not my idea of an auspicious welcome, though the dog’s owners did not think this was a problem! Once inside, however, I was impressed with the array of English football club flags dotted around the place, though the décor overall is nothing to write home about. Agree with a previous poster in that this pub reminded me of the Claremont in West Byfleet. Despite the crowd gathered for the British Lions match, we were served promptly with a pear Bulmers and diet Coke coming to £4.77, so make what you want from that if anything about the prices of drinks in here! I imagine this is a decent boozer to watch televised sport – especially football - or sit out in glorious sunshine if in the vicinity. I can not vouch for eating here. I was with the missus, but even if not, I would NEVER come here “Searching for H-Files”, as the logical option would be to walk into town for friendly female talent given you simply have more choices of venue. | Popped in the for first time in years recently and wish I hadn't bothered. Tried a couple of what I assume were guest ales, found both of them disgusting (can't remember their names). Staff look depressed too. I guess its popular with the students as they advertise very cheap food (top quality ingredients I'm sure!) I personally won't hurry back. kitcat - 22 Jan 2009 13:18 |
| Could not be bothered to cook and thought we would try here for a change. Wish we had gone to the chip shop and eaten whilst standing in the freezing cold! Staff so busy amusing each other they had no time for the customers and our meals were awful (after wating for 45 minutes). Garlic bread was nice 'tho. Should have had chocolate pudding I 'spose, but could not wait to leave. Use of anglo saxon terms in reference to ladies parts was word of the day! derekthesheep - 27 Nov 2008 19:13 |
