I had wondered what I would find here in view of previous negative reviews. Arrived around ten, ordered an OK pint of bitter and a breakfast which was substantial and well-cooked, cost £4.20 and arrived within a few minutes. Not gourmet fare, but this is a Wetherspoons pub. I called in for a pint and a breakfast and left satisifed on all counts, having received exactly what I had paid for (and expect).

There over the weekend found just two staff working downstairs, there were dirty cups plates etc. on tables seats window sills. If a place has gone down hill quicker I cant find it.

Third time in November I have been short changed at this pub when buying a pint without a receipt, be careful as last time it occured on Thursday 1 Dec it was not a mistake. Shame

It's a Wetherspoons (branded as LLoyds No.1). It was busy on an early Saturday evening but suffered from the usual Wetherspoon's syndrome - lack of staff! There was one barman serving loads of waiting punters until a "duty manager" finally turned up and I got served (good pint of Adnams IPA). What amazed me was the fact that it is almost directly opposite The Cricketers which is another Wetherspoons pub!! Is there enough trade for both - must be!! Anyway - been there;done it; had the beer and have no need to go back again as thhere are better pubs in town (Dove Street/Fat Cat to name but two).

Very busy pub typical for a cheap food place loads of elderly people but that makes it a better pub I think! Dont go in between 12.30 -14.00 and expect to get a table all year round because you wont. That said thay can do some decent real ales like Essex Beast from Neathergate of Sudbury.
