New owners in November 2013, with a talented chef! We enjoyed the tasty dishes of wholesome soups, pates and mussels to start. The main dishes (curry, beef salad, nachos and seabass) were equally well flavoured, fresh and tasted homemade! Friendly staff, clean facilities and a hearty welcome. Great for groups and quiet couples alike in the restaurant; in the bar area young families needing high chairs and even muddy dogs are welcome! Definitely worth a try, their chips are superb btw!!! We look forward to returning.

I have been recommending the Walnut Tree to my partner after a couple of lunches there with work colleagues. We decided to stop by for lunch today and I was so disappointed. The children's chicken strips were so dry and tough you could hardly cut them and the chips were the greasiest I have ever had. It was very embarrassing that I have been raving about the place and then the food was so bad.

The Walnut Tree was taken over by new owners in November 2011 who shut the place down whilst it underwent a major redecoration.
This basically consisted of smartening the place up and aiming more at the gastro pub market. The old carpet has gone in place of a shiny new wooden floor. The interior is now a lot brighter with everything painted light grey including all the old period beams . The fireplaces remain, but the real fires have gone in place of a small fish tank in one and a big glowing orange vase in the other .
People who Dulux over 200 year old plus beams and replace real fires with vases should be shot in my opinion. But if that what it takes to keep this place going , then so be it.
The dining room section has also been improved and moved upmarket. You can tell this because they have decorated it with twigs, ( why interior decorators think we will be attracted to places because they decorate them with vases full of bits of old dead tree continues to be a mystery to me), and the menu has moved suitably upmarket and more expensive. Fortunately for us working locally they still have a reasonable lunchtime sandwich menu.
Unfortunately though the guest ale policy has disappeared and GK, IPA, Abbott and OSH are now the constant choices although they seem to be well kept and the quality remains high.

I love this pub. I have been drinking there for 15 years. The locals are all good people who are always up for giggle. The pub attracts drinkers of all ages and everyone gets on well and enjoys a drink. The pub is kid friendly, making a great place for a family Sunday lunch. The new menu is a winner and well worth checking out. I cannot praise the place enough and suggest anyone who has not been before pop's in to see what they think, after all that's the only way to have your own opinion. I'm sure anyone visiting will be greated with a smile and will have a great time.....Saturday nights are the best for a 'big' night out.
