Not a bad stop off point but the clinical way the bar has been redecorated does the appealing building no favours. Service was friendly and food passable - a BLT was actually above average and well executed. Contrary to the previous poster's comment, they do show live football - we took in the Cheltenham v Torquay play off game from May 2012 in here and there were no objections to our esoteric request to put the game on. Not perhaps as good as the Cross Keys but a pint of Courage Best went down well.

This pub is convenient if you are parked up on a boat/barge on the river as it is just a 5 minute walk away. It does however not show any live sport, instead showing over and over again a news channel. It seems to have been recently decorated inside with a few trendy pictures and a strange carpet floor that appears to be wooden by the eye. My friends ate at this pub and seemed content with what they were given. The front outside area is ok and there is a good chinese restaurant across the road called the Peking Garden which I would recommend.

The George is alive again. It smells of a rescue operation to keep it going until someone with deep pockets can be found to take a long lease for scant reward, but it is a pub again. Not much on tap but food is sound; portions are generous and the cheapest around.

The George is closed, dead, an ex-pub.

Gone into liquidation if my sources are to be believed.
