Went to the Ferryboat for Sunday lunch, mainly as a result of reading the (more recent) reviews on this site.

The beefburger was underwhelming, the fish and chips were definitely substandard (wet, crumbly and oily, not fresh and firm). Food took a long time to arrive, staff weren't particularly polite, or attentive. Nobody asked "how the meal was" (else I'd have told 'em). The only time we saw a turn of speed from the staff was when we got up and walked towards the door -- always a sure fire way of getting the bill quick that one.

Upon rechecking the "positive" reviews below, it's interesting to note that a sequence of 6 gushingly-positive reviews were all posted between 8 & 9 Nov 2010, all left by users who have posted no other reviews. And all joined the site on the day that they left their only review. And three of those users claim to visit the pub regularly. What are the chances of that, eh? S'pose I should have been paying more attention?

My advice - go somewhere else.

We have visited this pub many times without our children and we have had generally pleasant evenings. However, do not take your children to this place as you will be met with a very abrasive attitude if your kids do any little thing wrong. NOT CHILD FRIENDLY! We will not be going back.

Another pub next door to the greyhound.... And here are all the punters! Extensive menu and they were still accommodating enough to let me change the meal a bit without charging extra. Great service. Landlord was a bit ropey (beer, not the fella behind the bar) but I often find it doesnt travel well.

What a fantastic find!! I have been to this pub frequently and rate it as the best pub in the wide variety available in Pangbourne and Whitchurch.

Not only a great atmosphere - very friendly and welcoming - but lovely setting and scrummy food. The owners have created a warm and appealing setting where I have felt comfortable visiting either on my own on occasion or more frequently with family and friends.

A gorgeous garden (for those warmer) days is at the back - beautif ully planted by I understand Jesse - very pleasant for sitting out. Inside is a relaxed bar area including lovely sofas - fab for chilling out.

Food is fantastic - always a good selection - everything I have ever had is well prepared and delicious. The best chef's salad I have ever had, fab venison casserole the other evening and to die for puddings.

Lovely place, great atmosphere. Have been visiting The Ferryboat Inn for 2,5 years now and every single time it's been a great experience. The pub is very original with its stylish interior decoration which also add a note of sophistication but doesn't overdo it making this place suitable for both young people seeking place with character and older people who are looking for warm welcome and tactful staff. The employees are always very friendly and attentive and make you feel very much "at home". The owner makes sure that the place doesn't lose its charm and uniqueness. On top of this, every single time I'm at The Ferryboat, I get the most delicious food! The menu is perfect and I always find something I love..plus have few favourites! :-) In fact, I got so hungry now thinking about their food, I might just go there now to eat my supper! Definitely recommend it to anyone. Ten out of ten - will not go to any other pub in the area as long as the Feryboat and its owners are here.
