| The beer was good and served well. The Sunday roast was very poor with tough meat and next to no vegetables. I have eaten better for less than half the price. delpus - 20 Feb 2011 16:19 |
| Charming village bar serving excellent local beer and good food. There's something unsatisfactory about looking through a doorway and seeing the lush foyer of an hotel, but it's the best bar in Pangbourne (it's where the people who own horses go), and closer to the car park than the Cross Keys (where the grooms go). | Although the interior decor is more hotel than pub I have always found the beer quality reliably good with West Berkshire brews and Butcombe on offer. The food, which I've only sampled once recently was ok too. It doesn't seem to get too busy and attracts all sorts. Drum - 2 Jun 2009 21:34 |
| Recently refurbed, sports a couple of interesting ales from West Berks plus a Butcombe. Condition average. Unfortunately the inside of the place doesn't appeal as a place to drink them in, a bit sterile. And what are those tables about? There's no accounting for (bad) taste... Give it a bit of time, and hopefully will it'll gain a bit of character and ale consistency. Maybe worth a quick half at present. Quinno - 31 Aug 2008 00:55 |
| Unusual Restaurant come pub, Elephants are the order of the day, I remember reading those stories when I was a kid. A great place to come if you have lots of money as the somewhat pretentious menu is a bit pricey, especially as we just wanted lunch time bar food. However the real ale was reasonably priced and had two local West Berkshire Beers in fine form, so from that point of view I'd heartily recommend it. Abteilung - 27 Jul 2008 13:05 |
