| The Dog and Bear is situated in a lovely building on the picturesque market square. The pub, however, is a bit disappointing. I like Shepherd Neame beers, but in recent time, they seem to only have two core ones on tap (Spitfire and Masterbrew), and lack the seasonal ales, which are Shep's best ales. The food and restaurant is also average at best (I have been there about four times for Sunday lunch and dinner) in hope that i may be wrong, but have been disappointed each occasion. Also, if there is such a thing as a chav pub in Lenham, this is it, as the few chavs that are about in Lenham seem to frequent the Dog and Bear. SteveTreacle - 19 Apr 2011 14:37 |
| An attractive pub in the center of the village. I stayed overnight with my wife, we found all the staff friendly and efficient. The bar was large but comfortable and the Shepherd Neame hand pumped beers were very drinkable. The was some atmosphere in the bar but this was muted somewhat by the large flat-screen TV which nobody seemed to be watching. The restaurant was also a little disappointing. | After an 'experience' in the Who'd a thought it, I was delighted to discover the Dog and Bear, and what a contrast! Lovely beer, warm welcome, well organised, superb, courteous and friendly staff, log fire, pub dog and good offers including a cheeky gamble!! Definately worth a visit and a roll of the dice! | Reasonable Shepherd Neame pub in the heart of Lenham. The pub is divided into two - on the left is a restaurant area that serves lunchtime and evening meals. I didn't get a decent look at a menu. Fortunately, this pub hasn't totally been taken over by foodies like many other pubs in Kent have, with the otherside of the pub being for drinkers. A menu of light snacks, sandwiches etc is served all day - the sandwiches looked very nice, although pricey at £5-£6. The pub has Sky Sports and it was a pleasant atmosphere during the Man Utd-Arsenal match. Beer wise, usual Shepherd Neame range but it seems that Hurlimann might have been struck off in favour of Asahi, which if true is a great disappointment. Masterbrew and Spitfire were the ales.
