OK but could be so much better.

The garden though is excellent on a hot summers day

I wanted to thank the owners for letting me work in the priory pub this last year, and as an American, I found it enlightening. This is what I learned.
1. British people are very polite and considerate.
2. Despite what others have commented on, there is a very nice mix of people who use the Priory. Students, Veterans, Retired people, Workers from Reigate. All of them kind, polite, even when drunk.
3. Football (Soccer) is an exciting sport to watch on TV. Chelsey Fans, Liverpool Fans, Manchester Fans, Arsenal Fans, and any other supporters can get along and have fun.(If you have big enough bouncers):)
4. Working in a pub is hard work.
Seriously, the people who work there are beautiful, fun loving, and the patrons are great.
To my fellow Americans who visit this pub, you don't have to tip even if it is the best service you ever had!

Even though I don't get on all that well with Spirit and the bouncers here the one thing I will say about them is they are extremely "hot" on anyone they think may be taking drugs, always watching for the tell tale signs, in and out of the toilets etc. so fair play to them on that score.

My best Reigate pub so far. Bouncers do a good job at keeping out who is not invited apparently..That is fine in my book. Music ok but not brilliant but plenty of chairs.

To the younger, more "corporate" pubgoer with a penchant for watching footie, this place probably screams out as a must-visit venue, but for traditionalists it is utterly lacking in genuine atmosphere and character.
Don't get me wrong, it's an improvement on the cavernous grime and gristle of the Castle, its goth and metaller-favoured earlier incarnation, and is, well, nice enough. The garden has been opened up to good effect in the summer, and the staff are friendly. Even the ale is reasonably well-kept in my experience, which was a surprise.
Yet it's still somehow forgettable - and not because I'd drunk too many shots of coffee sambuca and goldschlager (yes, those who like fancy shots are well-catered for here). It's a bit spartan for me - no comfort or cosiness. Also too many flashy Reigate types poncing about.
Perhaps the most insufferable feature though is that they feel the need for 2 burly bouncers to cover the entrance even on a quiet weeknight - who do they think they are? It's either self-importance, or they have a drug problem that they don't want to publicise! Room for improvement in my book.
