I like the Duth House and the simple mix of people you get in there...Although there are several pubs closer to my home than the Dutch House I prefer to walk the extra distance to the Dutch house because I like the friendly atmosphere, the drink prices are very fair and I like the general decor (low timber beamed ceiling-not a particularly authentic one but unpretentious and with a nice feel about it). They usually have live music on Friday nights and although there is not a proper dance floor a few people usually create their own. It's never crowded but this makes the atmosphere laid back and friendly. anonymous - 13 Nov 2007 23:54
used to love this pub but has become less friendly than it was before, only had a quick pint of flat larger which i dont like anyway but wanted to go in and see if the place still had all the charm it used too....it doesnt. J.morgan - 14 Mar 2007 11:54
Used to live around the corner from the Dutch. Unfair comments about the 'slightly dodgy Rangers period'. The Rangers supporting ex-landord is married to a Catholic and the vast majority of the clientele (if that's not too much of a posh word for the punters) are either Irish Catholic or black; and they didn't mind the one Union Jack flag with Rangers written on it. That said, it's friendly enough. But it is quite a local's pub. LemonGrass - 27 Feb 2007 17:20
This is a friendly enough local. It's not smart, it's not fancy but that's just fine. It's probably the most mixed pub in the area, although it can be a bit blokey. Never seen anyone get any hassle though. If you're sat on your own it's quite possible one of the regulars will start a random friendly conversation, but they'll leave you alone if you'd prefer. The Friday night kareoke is an institution, where else would you get irish folk music mixing with freestyle dub? It can get pretty smokey though (at least until July I guess). As a side note, the Dutch House apparently went through a slightly dodgy Rangers period a few years ago but thankfully it seems to be long gone along with the associated union jacks and "Billy's corner". No more orange than the next pub now. trueconfessions - 8 Feb 2007 13:23
