it's my birthday. Told them so when we arrived.after initial drinks ordered at bar by me, it took at least 40 minutes to take our order. An hour later we were still awaiting starters.Complained. Advised that it was being plated up. (LIE) Ordered beer battered mushrooms at 3.95. They arrived. Four. Yes FOUR. That's a 1 a mushroom !!!!. Mains arrived. 2 x whale of a fish and chips. Think the fish died in the frier, overcooked and very well done. Another was a sole special @ 11.95. Arrived, swimming (metaphorically)in oil and overcooked with cremated vegetables. Another was a rump steak. Arrived. Cold !!! Complained. Apology made. Told that sole and rump steak would be taken off bill.
WHAT A JOKE.. WOULDN'T come back unless paid. Try the Tuns or Carpenters !!

Lovely place to eat, drink & chill. We are fairly regular visitors and always enjoy the experience. Wine/beer is good - except they've now stopped selling Fosters (shame) and the food is tasty, reasonably priced and served by friendly staff.
Long may they continue

I think the food must have had a make-over judging from the previous entries, went for lunch with friends and had really scrummy food. Unfortunately the lighting was APPAULING. It was lunchtime but felt like dusk, wondered if they were trying to keep their 'leccy bills down. Staff friendly.

These guys could learn a lot from the Tuns, wouldnt go here again, food stuck to plates is not best!!

I am afraid The Crown remains a chain pub, with bland, "boil in the bag" mass produced type food. OK if you want cheap and quick but little quality or care over preparation. Occasional beers can be good, but many simply OK. The decor which was put in at the refurb a year or two ago is dark and clearly pseudo. Both the nearby 3 Tuns and the Carpenters Arms offer much better alternatives, the 3 Tuns for quality food and beer with a more subdued but homely atmosphere and the Carpenters for the more noisy, lively style created by the locals which may be a bit too much if you want "relaxed" but has good beer ( Fullers) , better food even though still a bit mass produced. Forget the Crown. Sadly just not worth it.
