it's my birthday. Told them so when we arrived.after initial drinks ordered at bar by me, it took at least 40 minutes to take our order. An hour later we were still awaiting starters.Complained. Advised that it was being plated up. (LIE) Ordered beer battered mushrooms at 3.95. They arrived. Four. Yes FOUR. That's a 1 a mushroom !!!!. Mains arrived. 2 x whale of a fish and chips. Think the fish died in the frier, overcooked and very well done. Another was a sole special @ 11.95. Arrived, swimming (metaphorically)in oil and overcooked with cremated vegetables. Another was a rump steak. Arrived. Cold !!! Complained. Apology made. Told that sole and rump steak would be taken off bill.
WHAT A JOKE.. WOULDN'T come back unless paid. Try the Tuns or Carpenters !!

Lovely place to eat, drink & chill. We are fairly regular visitors and always enjoy the experience. Wine/beer is good - except they've now stopped selling Fosters (shame) and the food is tasty, reasonably priced and served by friendly staff.
Long may they continue

I think the food must have had a make-over judging from the previous entries, went for lunch with friends and had really scrummy food. Unfortunately the lighting was APPAULING. It was lunchtime but felt like dusk, wondered if they were trying to keep their 'leccy bills down. Staff friendly.

These guys could learn a lot from the Tuns, wouldnt go here again, food stuck to plates is not best!!

I am afraid The Crown remains a chain pub, with bland, "boil in the bag" mass produced type food. OK if you want cheap and quick but little quality or care over preparation. Occasional beers can be good, but many simply OK. The decor which was put in at the refurb a year or two ago is dark and clearly pseudo. Both the nearby 3 Tuns and the Carpenters Arms offer much better alternatives, the 3 Tuns for quality food and beer with a more subdued but homely atmosphere and the Carpenters for the more noisy, lively style created by the locals which may be a bit too much if you want "relaxed" but has good beer ( Fullers) , better food even though still a bit mass produced. Forget the Crown. Sadly just not worth it.

Thought we would pop in the other evening and all I can say is that I wish we hadn't bothered. It would have been quicker, easier and a far more pleasant experience to just chuck 40 in the bin. The food was luke warm and had the taste and texture of baby food, then again it is pre packaged microwave rubbish. Some staff were friendly but it really does depend on who you get. A very disappointing experience. When in Bransgore eat at the Tuns and drink at The Carpenters.

Having done the rounds of Bransgore last week, thought I would give the Crown a chance. I was so dissapointed, they have gone down the 2 meals cheap route and ruined it. Plastic boiled in the bag or nuked, stuck to the plate etc etc. Yes its cheap, but the there are much better eateries in Bransgore and I would rather pay a few more pounds than throw it away! Tuns still has the edge by a long way, wake up The Crown, sort your food and service out

Have eaten here about four times and found the food very good consistently. Staff are friendly and helpful. Prices quite reasonable

Visited The Crown last Friday night and it exceeded all of my expectations! Fantastic food, wonderful atmosphere, genuine friendly staff and a brilliant range of real ales and wines. Will definitely be visiting The Crown again - best pub in the area! Well done

People are right, this is a friendly pub and the staff are good, however, the food is still processed and microwaved, not much imagination here

Just wanted to say that this is a very pleasant place to spend an evening with family and friends, well-behaved children are welcome, we often take our three boys there for a meal, children's portions are available on certain dishes, the staff are always friendly and the atmosphere is good. Our children do not run around the pub when we go out, there is a time and a place for that, we sit, enjoy our meals and have a pleasant conversation. It is also a nice place to go and have a drink, they do not encourage people to stand at the bar, but to me that makes it better, much more accessible to everyone, have been to pubs in the past where it takes about ten minutes to find a space at the bar or had to ask locals to move in order to get a drink or pay. All in all the manager is very nice as are the staff and it is extremely well priced, certainly doesn't break the bank. Best pub in the village.

Well, the crown have tweaked their look again, and improved it again. they consistently serve a good meal with good friendly service and now there's 3 real ales. shall be visiting more often.
marhop - 3 Feb 2008 01:54
This was a good food pub with some real ales as well.
'Nothing on the menu for the youngsters'? Don't kids eat proper food then? Mine do. A smaller portion size, yes. Chicken nuggets, no.
Oi loikes Dorset, oi does.

When will Pub landlords learn....there is a Dog lovers population that love to eat out with their companions. There is no law stating that dogs cannot be in a pub or indeed for that matter a restaurant. It is up to the management and their discretion. So we arrived to see bikers and Harley Davidsons in the car park [we almost drove away] and then when we asked for the wine list were presented with a Flip Chart!!! Asked about dogs - no dogs - we left. Obviously they love bikers more than mans best friend.

This pub smacks of pretension and very little else - go to the Three Tuns. Lovely atmosphere and doesn't have to be expensive.

Vibe is more restaurant than pub now - you feel like you're in the way if you stand at the bar. Nice decor inside, beer is good but food is no better than it was before the refurb - much of it is as if it was out of a packet. Friendly staff though.

Someone's gone to a lot of trouble at The Crown and it's paid off. It's very dark and cosy and quite artfully done. It's all mismatched dining furniture and wood/slate floors. Went there for lunch today and they lit the open fire for us. Excellent. Serves Ringwood so another box ticked. No kids menu so no kids - perfect! Food isn't brilliant but it's far more reasonably priced than the nearby Three Tuns which can be extortionate, and has disppointing puddings. The Crown's Service can be a little over-solicitous one minute then they foget you're there the next. But all-in-all very good and I will be going back.

Went in over the weekend, its now like a Saga reunion venue, where are all the young couples and families? nothing on the menu for the youngsters? they do eat you know or would you rather they stayed up the chimney.
bransgore attracts a lot of campers in the summer but the Crown now only caters for the blue rinse.

Went here last night (1st june), love the refurb and think that they have done a good job. However, was very dark and quite honestly the food was mediocre, probaby what you expect from steamed food. Was good initially, but has not kept up the standard from when it opened unfortunately. So we went back to the faithful Tuns - and yes you guessed it - the welshman was on holiday - again! Atmosphere was great and the resturant was full, staff were friendly and beer was first class - spec Timothy Taylor
champagnestyle - 2 Jun 2007 06:33
A first class pub since re-fub. Excellent food, smart, articulate and friendly staff. Very keen prices. Come on now, chase the Three tons out of town! they put the prices up during your re-furb
Seabound - 28 May 2007 15:35
the pub is open now and is beautiful, Ringwood best 2.30 and bass 2.50 I drank the bass and it was great.
Cheaper than the tuns and better looking...
proffessa - 25 Apr 2007 19:12
Spoke to the manager the other day, apparently the pub reopens on April 19th, its going to look amazing and there will be no screaming children running about.
proffessa - 4 Apr 2007 18:18
I agree with johnkn7, Tuns is far better
champagnestyle - 12 Jun 2006 20:51
Very nice if you want to watch Eastenders with a load of kids.
anonymous - 23 May 2006 15:19
Doubt if there are many places the size of Bransgore that still have three pubs. This is the worst of the three as it's just another same old same old Brewers Fayre joint. Try the Three Tuns instead, you won't be disappointed.
