| I'm amazed by the comments below. Just last night I was back in the Mayfair lapping up the ambience whilst chugging back some of the black stuff, playing pool and loading up the jukebox. The service was rapid, polite and attentive. There was only the same 4 blokes at the bar mind. Sadly, I didn't have time to play some arrows. JockStrap - 7 Feb 2010 19:06 |
| Inspired by the comments mentioning the remarkably friendly atmosphere of this pub, a couple of mates and I decided to give it a bash last Saturday night. We walked in. 4 old geezers sitting in a row at the bar, 1 old geezer behind the bar - presumably the barman. They were facing a small television, which was broadcasting the popular Saturday evening laugh-fest "You've Been Framed", practically falling off their chairs as they watched the hilarious on-screen antics; it was truly a sight to behold. What was more amazing than this was their sensational ability to ignore. We assume they must have had special training - we'd wandered in on an elite force of the country's top ignorers. We stood awkwardly at the end of the bar being completely and utterly ignored for at least a full minute, then we left and went somewhere that wasn't absolutely and completely rubbish. It was hilarious though and we laughed about it a lot. We thought it might be fun to go back sometime, open the door and push a trained dog in on a skateboard to see if this would elicit a response from the regulars or staff, and we hope to try this soon. irv - 29 Jan 2010 16:27 |
| Went back to the Mayfair last month, top stuff, pool table, dart board and good friendly staff. The Mayfair is still a place to sample, dream and then go for a Mirch............ 10/10 JockStrap - 28 Dec 2009 17:59 |
Looks can deceive. This place looks well dodgy inside and out but it's actually one of the most friendly places to drink in the whole Tooting Bec area. It won't win any awards for style or decoration though. Reasonably priced too - for example no charge for mixers with spirits. asnootyfox - 25 Aug 2007 08:48 |
| Being an Irishman, I like to see what constitutes an Irish pub, when out of the country. Mind, I've been out of the country for years now - so I can't keep track of the trendy bars back home. The MT is not trendy, not in the slightest. This is not a bad thing. I have been here on several occasions and found the staff and clientele to be very pleasant. However, I imagine being confronted with the ignorant type who refer to you as a "mick" or patronising you because of your beliefs (misguided or otherwise) may bring a frown to the jolliest of faces.
