Looks can deceive. This place looks well dodgy inside and out but it's actually one of the most friendly places to drink in the whole Tooting Bec area. It won't win any awards for style or decoration though. Reasonably priced too - for example no charge for mixers with spirits.

Being an Irishman, I like to see what constitutes an Irish pub, when out of the country. Mind, I've been out of the country for years now - so I can't keep track of the trendy bars back home. The MT is not trendy, not in the slightest. This is not a bad thing. I have been here on several occasions and found the staff and clientele to be very pleasant.

However, I imagine being confronted with the ignorant type who refer to you as a "mick" or patronising you because of your beliefs (misguided or otherwise) may bring a frown to the jolliest of faces.

I need to take issue with the comments by pigman. I've never found the Mayfair to be anything other than warm and welcoming, with a friendly atmosphere. Indeed, just the other day myself and a travelling companion were ushered in, furnished booze, allowed to use the duke box and given free reign of the pool table, and all for standard prices mind. Whenever I go to a different boozer, I raise a glass and dream of the Mayfair!

Dont know how this pub has been rated at 8.8 out of ten, if ever a pub was in need of a smoking ban then this is it, think the regulars were smoking for all their mates back home who dont enjoy the previledge any more. Full of micks who were either threatening each other, asleep or playing the same depressing music over and over again. Landlord was friendly though, said he would look out for me and my mates as though we might be expected to pay some kind of protection money!

Only joking. Its a great local hostelry, with a charming landlord, Magners in abundance, and my better half generally propping up the bar or losing at pool....
