Had the pleasure of visiting here a couple of weeks ago - truly excewllent food - Sunday roasts @ c.£12/15 per head as good as your mum's. Friendly helpful staff Good atmosphere decent car-park.
My only gripe is that a a Green King pub the beer choice was v. limited No local ale which is unforgiveable given the wealth of local Oxon beers. Morland original - was local 15 years ago - was nicely kept.
Address the beer issue please and the Hare would be almost perfect!

As for the History from tamerin33, but sorry the pub was the Hare long before Gus was landlord, good story but untrue, as for the present, the pub is run by Ian and Jackie who before ran the Volunteer at Grove, the Couple are well known locally for their Hospitality and good food, everybody is welcomed, Old, Young, Child or Dog, would recommend to Anyone.

A good welcome,EXCELLENT and good value food but moderate ale by both quality and selection. "Morlands" bitter and Abbot Reserve were on,but the Osset guest wasn't ready. Greedy king at its usual standard.

Actually I have quite a bit to say about this pub.
A little bit of historical background to it..

It's Name originated when the owner Gus asked my brother and myself what he should name the pub. this was back in 1974 I beleive..

We had just caught a wild Hare and so we gave it it's name.

The pub was home to many fun activities for the village and also hosted quite a number of Disco's in the 70's.. I'm not sure who owns it now but at least that's a bit of it's history for you.
