Had thought the new team were doing a pretty good job of keeping the place up to historical standards (although not sure why they need the TVs), but ringing last orders on a packed pub at 10.30 on Christmas Eve?????? .. would never have happened in George & Pam's days Time to find a new pub.. 33048 - 24 Dec 2011 23:38
Fantastic pub! Have just moved into area and discovered The Bricklayers. Great choice of food with original specials. The Sunday lunches are the best I've had anywhere - lots of fresh veg = swede, parsnips crispy roast potatoes = not frozen rubbish, spring greens, Yorkshire pud and a generous portion of meat. I had The lamb which was superb. The staff were very friendly and obviously have been taught very well by the landlord and landlady who were very much hands on. I have eaten there now 11 times (not bad - only moved in 3 wks ago!) and have popped in for a drink at various times. The clientele are mixed but all seem very friendly. Yes, there are big screen tv's but volume was kept to a minimum each time I visited. I would be happy to take clients or family to this pub. Great place! Reculey - 8 Mar 2011 19:30
Late Victorian corner location Shepherd Neame pub. Well kept, it is tidy inside and out. Though well decked out with wood inside, and containing some original features, it has had a modern refurbishment which has opened it up, though keeping some of the charm of old corners and fireplaces. There is a spacious, clean and bright modern feel, with a couple of leather armchairs and low tables here and there, but still retaining some of the sense of tradition that pub goers ,especially mature pub goers, appreciate. The pub is large, with several sections. The right hand side has the biggest bar area. The left hand side contains three sections, including a Spitfire bar with old Shepherd Neame advertising on the wall. There's a a two level covered patio area at the back. Three casks on. Beer in good condition. And food available. It's not a pub of great character, so not one to make a detour for, but if in Bromley, and if fancying a Sunday lunch, this would do nicely. A place you could bring the inlaws to. Bonus is the Bitter End beer shop next door, which offers a very good range of bottled beers from UK, Belgium and America, plus cask ales to take away. Decent place. SilkTork - 16 Jan 2011 16:20
Now you can see very large T.V. screens from every angle of the pub I feel like I should refer to it as a sports bar. The Bricklayers is a fantastic pub all round and is probably one of the best in Bromley. Great traditional pub interior, very nice staff, great atmosphere, the most innovative pub garden I have ever seen and good beer. The only problem I have is with those T.V's. I realise pubs are doing all they can to attract customers, especially during the World Cup. However pubs should create a balance between sports lovers and people who just want to go for a pint and a good chat. I think the screens should have been restricted to just one side of the pub. So if someone fancies a pint and who is not interested in sport can do so. That would be a fair compramise I think. Saying that I did go to the pub last weekend. it was very quiet for a Saturday evening, but for some reason Bromley and Croydon very very quiet. It must have been the hot weather. Anyway, all the screens had been switched off. I am sure they are on again now for Big Brother! TheDaleks - 11 Jun 2010 17:22
