Went to this pub for the first time last week. Met the landlord & landlady Clive & Natalie. Took the kids for Sunday roast there. Couldn't believe how little it cost for so much food. Four of us ordered, four of us couldn't finish because there was so much!!
Couldn't fault the food, couldn't fault the pub. Definitely be back - soon.

I have been going to The Royal Oak for years and can't believe how much it has changed, but yet still feels as comfortable as before. I have spoken to the tenant's and the Charlton Athletic wall pictures will be appearing shortly - which im very pleased to hear. Unlike some of the comments I have read I believe the service has improved, but still needs some attention. It is nice to see a proper pub with real ales and a wide variety of whiskeys. My partner and children also enjoy the atmosphere and therefore we will definetly be re-visiting The Royal Oak other than just on football days.

The place overall looks better since the refurb, but there are a few negative points to mention that has ruined the Oak for the time being.
-why put seats in the corner on a match day when people need to get to the bar? why not put tables in the extra new echo extension? the last few match days have been very busy with congestion around the bar, so to put a table there seems ridiculous!
-the music is really really loud after the matches when people are chatting about the game, or trying to watch the live football, standing in the echo lounge it is loud enough as it is.
-the draught lager always seems to run out, there is always something unavailable and the bar staff often fail to understand what you're asking for? it takes ages to get served as the staff don't know what pumps are working or even what they are! the labels on the pumps are often wrong as a guy next to me was complaining at the weekend when he got the wrong drink.
-there is only one ladies toilet, which is a bit of a pain. they should have fitted 2 cubicles in that space?

Sadly we don't visit the pub before the games anymore as its too much like hard work and I reckon it won't be long till we give up after wards as well, its a shame, but it won't take much for all the regulars that haven't already jumped ship to follow....
noting the review below, I must say I was pleased to notice that some of the memorabilia had returned to the walls and it doesn't look as bland as it did before.

Dont know about the last review but i went in there on Saturday before the game for the first time since the refurb. Granted it has much more space but the whole place seems so bland and too brightly lit. The pub seems to have lost all its character. Also where is all the charlton memorabilia from the walls gone? and more importantly where are all the lovely ladies gone from behind the bar which made my match day experience more enjoyable?
