Half decent last gasp pub for Charlton football ground. Pride and Courage Best.

Went in this pub just before I attended a football match, The service was very quick and staff on the ball, maximising their custom,The quickest service i have ever seen pulling pints. The ale i had was Fullers London Pride, but they had a couple more ales on pump. The surrounding were nowt special,it just had a cracking atmosphere with fans chatting away.

Recomended for away fans wanting a few pints before visiting the valley

Visited this pub sat for the footie and as a gillingham supporter i was very impressed with this pub good pint of london pride and quick service considering how busy it got by 1pm.
good mix of home and away fans and everyone was friendly and had a laugh well recommended before the game but they domt allow away fans in after match which is shame.

I was initially drawn into this pub by the offer of a toasted sandwich, but unfortunately the apologetic barman had to inform me that the bread had run out. It was a shame, but the nicely poured Guinness that I ordered filled the gap in no time! Courage Best and Pride were the limited ale options, but there were plenty of standard draught products to choose from.

It was very busy in here with locals for a weekday afternoon which wasn’t really that surprising as I found this to be a friendly pub with three plasma screens for the Sky Sports.

There are some picnic tables outside the front of the pub next to the main road, but there is some nicer seating to the side of the pub which includes some under a large umbrella for wetter days.

This place has a good atmosphere and is my favourite at the moment from the limited amount of pubs I have visited in this area.

As one of the best pubs in an area bereft of decent drinking holes, we usually frequent the Rose after midweek Charlton matches and generally have no problem (I should explain that I am not a Charlton fan but am usually lucky to be given use of someone else’s ticket for midweek games). Last night we found the pub “closed” but we followed everyone else round to the back entrance. Despite our protests that we do use the pub and waving 3 Charlton season tickets in their face (in case they thought that 2 suited people and an 11 year old kid desperate to use the loo were some king of West Brom terror group) they slammed the door in our face with a curt “I don’t recognise you.” I wonder if we will be recognised when we try again next week after the Liverpool game! Fortunately the Pickwick Arms 100 yards away were far more accommodating. For the record, the Rose is a down to earth, straight forward locals pub with a mainstream no thrills selection of beers / lagers. Good for watching sport. Obviously busy on match days (when open) but service has always been very good. Some seating outside but it is on a busy road and it’s hardly an attractive area. I have never seen any trouble despite away fans being accommodated but something must have happened for them to introduce a “closed after match” policy (unless your face fits). With the Antigallican also closed after games, there are now rather limited options for a post match midweek pint. I am not crass enough to boycott the place for not allowing us in but the attitude did leave a nasty taste.
