I like my beer cooler than most but the ale was VERY cold. Didn't open til 5pm which made it a quick visit before catching the train home. Tried were Wherry and Adnams Old and there were two others. Apart from the temperature they were fine. Steamer1 - 16 Dec 2011 15:12
Went in during a weekend stay in Ely, and found it the best pub in the town and the most welcoming and convivial. Yes I would agree with other posters that it is a bit of a private members club, but a polite one with a good atmosphere, good Shepherd Neame and polite service. Lord_Jeffers - 6 Dec 2010 11:52
Last time I went in the land lord was rude and there were children running about all over the place - not condusive to a "wind down" pint after work on a Friday. allersc - 3 Nov 2009 14:01
Not been in for a while, but my recollection is that it is friendly back street local, with a good standard of Sheps beers. mrse1 - 24 Jul 2009 13:48
| Can't complain about the beer and it's a well disciplined pub with decent clientele. Have to say the comments about closing early is one of the most grevious things a pub can do in my humble opinion. People are entilted to drink and be served until the time stated or the time that the pub usually closes. We're not talking legal stuff here, I know the pub can close anytime they decide. I mean the moral and ehtical issue of taking peoples money then closing befroe you expect them to, we not talking about late drinks or lock ins, just the normal time that they close, or should close each night.
