user reviews of the Red Lion Hotel, Salisbury

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This is not so much a "pub" as a relic from a former age. It's a hotel, first and foremost. The staff seem to be largely East European. Beer pretty average, food decent. It is a place my wife "feels safe in on her own".

The staff in this pub are rude, immature and need a kick up the backside, particularly the Vicky Pollard wannabe who's lack of knowledge about well-kept beer is, quite frankly, terrifying.

The management need replacing and the staff need a crash-course in customer-service and cellar-management.

Oh, and it's expensive!

Walking through Salisbury, my disabled friend and I popped into Oxfam and a very friendly helper in there told us about the Red Lion. Though a hotel, it did have a well stocked bar, disabled access and was comfy. What a difference professional staff make to a place. The two chaps behind the bar were friendly, pulled a great pint, made my companion feel entirely at home even so far as showing her to the Function Room toilets (which were out across the courtyard) as they had the best disabled access. The other patrons were great, amiable and our time there was well spent. When I'm next in Salisbury, I will definitely pop back along there. 10/10.
