As the poor relation to the Red Lion, it seems to be left to its own devices. Its beer-policy is encouraging superficially, but they do not seem to employ anyone with an enthusiasm for or knowledge of cask-conditioned beer. It could be a great little pub. zestfulgolloper - 17 Aug 2009 03:44
I was attracted into this place by the previous review which suggested that Timothy Taylor's Landlord was available, but I had the misfortune to visit when it was full of the most unpleasant people. Shouting, shoving and general mayhem seemed to be the order of the day (or night, Saturday night). I decided not to bother. I'm told that weekday evenings are okay but avoid like the plague on Friday and Saturday. afullpint - 10 Jun 2009 11:03
Genuinely old small two room boozer. Two hand pumps and a keg line up of Amstel, Fosters, Strongbow, etc. London Pride on one pump, the other not showing a clip, however due to some problem it wasn't working so my Pride was drawn from the cask and was reasonable. Taylors Landlord was also available in the same way but not advertised. Lots of tongue and groove and old beams give the place a pleasant old pubby feel but not in that gloomy interior way. The two bright main rooms are divided by a wainscott wall with exterior windows above which is slightly odd. The rear room houses a pool table and TV while the front is a comfortable drinking area with unusual photos and artifacts anonymous - 4 May 2009 11:33
Very different from the enormous hotel next door. It was a pleasure to spend an hour in this clean, cosy little pub. It's good to have friendly staff who are quite happy to talk to their customers. I enjoyed the beer and the games of pool in the back bar. I'd happily return when next in Salisbury. GrahamA - 17 Jul 2008 09:21
I love the name and the walls inside have some interesting info about the original frothblowers. It was a pitty about the loud music and the so so ale Apostar - 29 Jun 2007 13:33
