After a few people had recommended the fox food to me, I decided to eat there for the first time since it's been renovated and I must say it was one of the best meals i've had in a pub for a long time and will be revisiting again soon.

Took the family to the Fox today. Partner complained her monkfish was raw. Waitress came back saying that as she had eaten most of it, we wouldn't get a refund (d'oh....can't tell it's raw in the middle without eating some of it!!). Complained again and they gave us 50% off plus the waitresses tip! As if the poor girl had done anything wrong! Manager never came over to apologise just left to the young girl to sort. Tip for restaurant managers....if a customer complains about the food please listen to them and try not to squirm out of it. Very unprofessional and lack of class. Won't be back in a hurry.

There have been several reviews berating the change to The Fox. However, change was needed as since Evelyn (and Brian) left, the Fox was just getting worse and worse. (Short term Aussie managers who didn't have a clue about service or cleanliness, a case in point.) The decor might not be to everyones's liking, (it is a lot brighter and smarter than previous), but the beer is, as is the service. Pride always good. Doom Bar and Bombadier also good according to my colleagues. Sunday lunch excellent, and no dearer than a meal at Harvester. BUT, there should not be compulsory 10% gratuity on food orders. Otherwise, a huge improvement. And it is busy, so they must be doing someything right.

Most of the above is such rubbish, the Fox was dated, scruffy and was in desperate need of a revamp. It has now had a wonderful one, I have never felt so welcome in a pub, the owner is hands on as is his family and they greet customers like old friends, alot are as they were and are locals which is great. As well as the old regulars there are now new faces in there much of the time as they have heard how nice it is. Children and dogs are welcome, the food is great and the owner has emplyed some of the lovliest bar staff I have ever come across so don't be put off by the above so called reviews, the pub is now tastefully decorated with lovely comfy setees and chairs, a mix of old tables with pew chairs for meals, the loos are gorgeous, the whole pub is clean and just feels comfy, in the winter the setees are round a lovely open fire. I suggest all of the above get over to the vile Greyhound, they may be more at home over there!

Mediocre is the only thing to say about this pub. Bland, beige and dull. Feels as though it is trying to be something it isn't. Food was average and the bar staff were unattentive. Wouldn't rush back.
